I was on the Isabella II which is a luxury yacht.

it only takes 40 people and on our cruise there were only 36 people, because some came in groups of three .... and thus one person had a room to themselves.

shmoulie, if you are dealing with Martinslater ,ask him about the Isabella ll .

As a rule of thumb...the better the boat the better the guides.
Out three guides all had University Graduate degrees in Marine Biology and Zoology.

i went on the Samba. it was a 14 passenger boat, not luxurious but clean & comfy and we also had an amazing class III guide. for someone as young as Juan Manuel is, he sure is a smarty pants. the Samba is represented by Andando Tours.

Percy, this is for you as you sailed on the Isabella II and I'm thinking of booking it for next year. The glass-bottomed boat is a real attraction for me as we don't snorkel. Did you use it? How often was it available and could you see marine life from it? I've been on some glass-bottomed boats that it was very difficult to see the marine life through the glass. Thanks for any feedback on the boat.

Hi There
Yes, I used the glass bottom boat as it comes with being on the Isabella II.

You know the thing about glass bottoms boats is that if you are extra lucky you will see a lot of marine life.....

at other times you do not see that much.
We saw quite a bit of marine life..but it can vary.....anyway it is part of being on the Isabella II ,so there is no extra cost.

You will like the Isabella II ,it is a lovely yacht..only takes 40
people.

If you cannot find some inside pictures of it ,I can send you some.

Hi Percy,
Sorry to highjack this thread but I wanted to also sing Martin Slater's praises. He worked hard to get a boat for the 4 of us which proved to be a bit of a challenge because of the itinerary that we have set. 1 week Galapagos, 1 week Peruvian Jungle and 1 week Machu Picchu with tickets to the festival in Cusco 6/24. I will be able to tell more when we return from our trip, but we are all pretty excited about it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a hotel in Quito? We will be there for 1 night, I believe.
Good luck with your travel plans Shmoulie. I don't know when you are going, but the advice I have had from many is to plan the Galapagos part first, then the rest.It seemed pretty intense during that time since boat berths will be available then be snapped up and held for various travel agents for a few days ,then might become available again.

Hi venturesome4

I am glad that you enjoyed all that Martin Slater did for you.

For those that do not know:

Martin Slater has a Tour/Travel Company in Quito.

He book my complete trip ..to spend 4-5 days touring Quito and area.
He arranged private guides for us.
They met us at the airport on our arrival.

He booked my Galapagos Air and Cruise yacht.

He picked me up on my way back from the Galapagos(back to Quito) and toured me about Quito again ...(in the evening time) until it was time to head to the airport for my 11:45 PM flight back home.

He got me a good deal on everything because he lives in Quito and has his finger on all the "Specials" that come up.

So I have to blow his horn a little in that if anyone is thinking of going to the Galapagos ...you cannot go wrong by e-mailing Martin.

Oh yes and say Hi to him for me. He knows me well, as we stay in touch.

Dilemma:

I will finally have 12 days in Ecuador.

Should I go for a 5-day galapagos cruise or an 8-day one?

I know it always depends on what you want to see. the question is given the time limitations to at least do sth meanigful.

Thanks for the help!!!

If you do the 5 day Galapagos , what do you plan to do with the rest of your time.

Do you mean 12 days counting flying into Ecuador and flying back home....
or
do you have 12 full days in Ecuador.?

12 full days in Ecuador....the problem is I do not want to do a half good job...if ( days is not enough for galapagos then I might as well do that properly.... 7 days in Ecuador would probaly not be enough either way... so the quetion remains are 5 days enough for galapagos... I did get some answers before but I am still wondering...

This is a tough question to answer because some people have been to the Galapagos for 5 days and said they had enough.

Others went for 7 and said it was too much or still not enough.

For 7 days you will of course see more Islands and each island has its own flora fauna and history.

If you did, let's say a 5 day Galapagos Cruise , then you could stay a day or two in Puerto Ayora and see the sites and then fly out the next day.

With the 7 day cruise you will have seen a lot and even if some islands were more exciting than others.....you went...you saw...you conquered!!!!

The rest of the times can be in Quito and area with a private guide.
