Easter week report (belated!)
Wonderful place, and the locals were the absolute kindest and respectful of anywhere I've been. Stayed at the Grand Papagayo-- wonderful adn beautiful! Some people had problems at the resort, but I think their problems were mistakes that they didn't try to get fixed. They were very accomodating when we had a problem. And the food was excellent!
Rented a truck--make sure if you're the driver that you take along your actual passport, not a copy- apparently it's the law!? - we were pulled over at a check point near Liberia (lee-VAY-deeah, as Percy said, I think-- i really impressed the staff with that one!-thanks)
We had NO itinerary--drove to Tamarindo, playas del coco, and the "llanos des Cortes" (hope i got it right)waterfalls, where we were the only non-CRicans--it was somewhat crowded, being easter week-- awesome!! Also, someone mentioned a boy at the clearing where you park to walk to the falls who asks for a donation to watch the car-- It was a full blown operation when we went-- people with matching shirts and clipboards, directing where to park, and the police were there too. By the way, i got better directions to that place on this site than i did from the locals!! Whew WHOO!
Been to many places with "Rodeo Drives" and "Longchamps"and "Louis Vuittons", and there's nothing wrong with that. What I liked most about CR was that wherever we went we shared, shopped, and ate with the locals, and they were the best! They helped me find a beer in Tamarindo when it was against the law to sell them, because of Easter! (sorry, didn't find any Bud)
I think people on this site "sweat the small stuff" too much, myself included. Can't wait to go back!

Yep, except for a few bad apples, the Ticos are Costa Rica's greatest treasure! Glad you had a good time, and welcome home. Thanks for telling us how it went! And thanks for giving a thumbs up to the food! Would love to hear more about Grand Papagayo. . . .

oh, wait--there was a problem at the resort--PARENTS LETTING THEIR KIDS RUN RAMPANT THROUGHOUT, UNESCORTED IN THE BUFFETS, BARS, AND JUMPING OFF OF THE PATIO/RAILING INTO THE POOL.
Not older teens, but younger--TOO YOUNG TO BE LEFT ALONE ANYWHERE!

Yes, that would definitely be annoying, not to mention unsafe for the children! Probably a touchy situation for hotel staff as well. You'd think parents would know better, but 29 years in the teaching profession and nothing surprises me! My husband and I were always so afraid at motels & hotels that our kids were going to disturb someone else--now many kids aren't taught how to be respectful of others. Too bad for them.
