We are visiting San Antonio de Areco for a few days and would like advice on transportation from BA (AEP). We are experienced independent travelers, used to driving in foreign countries. Should we rent a car? Hire a Remise? There will be four of us traveling together.

My group will be doing essentially the same thing in March.

I would not suggest renting a car as rental prices are steep, and the local drivers are "loco" as far as Americans are concerned.

BTW, Americans are the worst drivers that I've ever encountered, and I've driven in 15+ different countries.

Avrooster has indicated that the remise cost is about 2 pesos per km plus toll fees. It might be more for 4 and luggage, as you'll need a larger vehicle.

Go to google.com.ar and search for trains and buses. They are pretty inexpensive.

R u going fo the day or spending more time? We picked up a car at AEP and drove it to San Antonio de Areco. We stayed at an estancia near there, La Bamba, and then drove to another estancia for a night and back to BA. We enjoyed the freedom of driving on our own and had no problem with the driving. It was several years ago, so I don't recall the cost.

We are spending two nights in San Antonio de Areco, so I think it will be worth it for us to rent a car. We'll try to drive defensively!

Leaving from AEP, we got on a highway and driving was easy. Out in the country there is absolutely no problem. Driving in BA requires skill, but is no different than many big cities -- lots of traffic moving quickly.
