DrDawwgy or AVrooster ( or anyone else!): What do you know about the caliber of guides that are used through Argentina Escapes Travel Agency for Buenos Aires

Hi all:

Dr dawwgy or Avrooster or anyone else for that matter, can you let me know if you know anything about the caliber of guides used for Argentina Escapes Agency.

We are all set with them for our trip of 8 of us to BsAs this April and I have been dealing with Pilar. Everything so far is wonderful and Pilar even got us an upgrade to suites at the Alvear for no extra charge!

I asked Pilar many moons ago about the quality of the guides who will be with us for our city walks and of course she praised them highly.

I just wanted an independent opinion if anyone knows the caliber of the guides used.

We will have a total of 6 hours of city walks ( spread out among various days) and we are happy with the places we will see. I just want to make sure that the guides are pretty top notch as we are used the best all around the world.

Anyone with any information would be most appreciated

thanks a mil.....

I'm sorry, tripgirl, but I don't have an answer to your question, as I am a local and do not use guides.

One thing you could do is research your question in the tripadvisor.com Argentina forum, using the search feature they have under the green bar.

I'll do it too and I'll tell you what I find.

tripgirl: I did what I suggested you should do and the comments seemed favorable, but I did not find anything specifically related to "the caliber of the guides".

Have a great time in our country. You are staying at the best hotel in town, so you are off to a good start!!!

Anything else I can do for you?

One more thing, tripgirl: since you say you have "used the best all around the world", perhaps you should research a guide called Mariana Schweim, using the same search feature I mentioned earlier.

tripgirl: You will get more results using just "Mariana", but there may be other Marianas. However, most recent posts should be about Mariana Schweim, sometimes referred to as just "Mariana".

thanks av,

We will be with whoever Pilar chooses so I don't think we'll have a say in it.

Other than that I think we are set!

Looks like AV has this one covered! I am a bit slow...and I don't know Pilar or the Argentina Escapes agency so I cannot comment one way or the other.

Please post a review after your trip and let us know about your experiences.

Hi, we've been very pleased with all the local guides arranged through Argentina Escapes on both of our trips to AR. In BA, we only did a 1/2 day tour and then a private trip to San Isidro/Delta Islands, both went very well.

owlwoman,
do you know if the guides they use are from Eternautas?
The way they sound, it sounds like them.

"Mariana" or "Mariana Schweim" by any
other name is a "Guia Extraordinaria" as we had the extreme pleasure of her
company for 4 entire days two weeks ago! We cannot say enough about this lovely girl who knows the city like the
back of her hand and happily shares her
vast knowledge with her customers (who
are treated more like friends!)which
makes a perfectly beautiful experience.
Somehow Mariana sizes up her clients
and shapes her tours around her conclu-
sions. We wanted to experience some
local outings which other posters had
enjoyed but upon meeting us Mariana
decided what we might better enjoy. And
she was right! Although we would have
survived the 'local' experience we
totally enjoyed our 'personalized' one!
As I said, she spent 4 days with us
(and is still acting as 'personal shop-
per' for one of us!)and as bad taste as
it might be I think I must mention that
her fee was modest to the extreme! For
the attention, time and care she gave us we were prepared to pay a premium
price and were more than pleasantly
surprised (flabberghasted?) with her
modest accounting.
We recommend Mariana highly. She can
be reached at [email protected].
(Yes, she has granted permission for me
to reveal this information.) Anyone who
has the pleasure of spending time with
her will be as grateful as we are!
And, AVRooster, it's good to see you
in print again! I'll probably get knocked off TA as I asked what happened
to the First Amendment. Sorry we didn't get to meet up but can understand how Paris took precedent over us! Next time! (Mignon)

Great post, Deirdremm/Mignon!!!

Please allow me to point out that Mariana Schweim's e-mail address is marianas_guideATyahoo.com as this forum has a technical problem when displaying e-mail addresses.

Many other comments about her services can be found in the tripadvisor.com Argentina forum http://tinyurl.com/nw9f4
asking about "Mariana" using their search feature located under the green bar. Some other Mariana may pop up, but googling "Mariana Schweim" would be too restrictive and would yield fewer comments.

One more thing, Deirdremm/Mignon: if you and hubby had said you wished to meet me, I would have gladly postponed my trip to Paris!!! LOL!!

I trust there will be a "next time", in the not-too distant future!

Oh, yes, TA and the First Amendment are not a good match, I'm afraid. LOL!!

Is her email [email protected] or [email protected]?

Thanks, I sent and email to marianasguide and it was returned to me.

I think they are trying to tell you there is a "underscore" between Mairianas and guide
so maybe marianas_guideATyahoodotdom????

Just guessing though. Am sure AV will advise shortly.

Once more, the fodors.com system changed the address.

Let me try again: marianas, then underscore or _, then guide, then @, then yahoo.com

Phew! Thanks, AV! I could never have
spelled it out as well! And, had you
postponed your trip to Paris to meet us
we'd question your sanity! Perhaps
"next time" can be there?!?

Do you mean you do not plan to come to Argentina again, Deirdremm/Mignon?

If so, it would be MY turn to "question your sanity". LOL!!!
