You will defiantly need a CC for security/damage Etc. Reserve in the US before you go. Discover card is NOT a popular option in Mexico. Find out about insurance charges as it can be more than the rental & if you have accident WITHOUT insurance it's a 90% change you will go to jail even if it's not your fault! Driving in Mexico is not something one should do without proper planning.

Well I had to cancel plans due to it. What annoys me is both Discover and car rental companies claim to offer complete services in Mexico, yet individual offices do not. I think Discover is rather aggressive at denying false claims, so local offices have decided to boycot them, even though they could accept them if they wanted to... the international chains offers the CC. Discover is linked to Enterprise, yet in Mexico it's not offered.
Needless to say, my only option now is to apply for a secured Visa or Mastercard, deposit the amount of money I intend on charging to rent the car (10% or 1000 for the deposit, 300-400 for the rental) and then cancelling the card after the trip. My only Mastercard is also my ATM card, I wasn't about to hand over my bank account to a clerk at a rental station.
