That departure tax will be included in the price of your ticket. The only exception is if you are a travel agent, pilot or flight attendant flying with airline coupons that require you pay all taxes inluding arrival and departure taxes. Did you know that there is also a arrival tax into Mexico now-I think like $15. And you must pay in cash, the correct amount-they will not make change or at least they didn't in the past and also you could not pay in pesos. But that was like 14 years ago,

We had the same situation as Laurie. We were using ff miles and had to pay a tax. In addition, the airline had changed our departure time so we would have had a couple more hours to hang around the airport. We decided we might as well get an earlier flight to Mexico City, so we had that fee to pay as well.
