Dengue Fever in Costa ica
Not to be a "downer" or alarmist as we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to CR, and will return next year. We flew to San Jose, ferry from Punterenas to Nicoya Penninsula and back. My son, on his return flight had terrible headache which I figured was due to our 4 a.m.departure to the airport and little sleep. He later had "shivering" chills, now low grade fever and headaches. I understand in August an outbreak had been reported however we were there last week. He did go to Montezuma ziplining and it rained for a couple of hours right before they left. Have been to docs of course however was wondering if possible to even catch this in this dry season? Thoughts?

Yes, lots of dengue in Costa Rica this year, 4x increase from last year. Guanacaste is one of the focus areas.
Mosquitos breed in pools, so stagnant water from the floods in November might be related?
Check with a doctor!

Yes rare but possible Dengue Epidemic in your areas in fall
Lots of family doctors miss the diagnosis
get the blood test perhaps go to a infectious disease
or travel mediciane specialist...
www.cdc.gov will have info and usually does this testing
Get well soon!

thanks to all and yes did see doc yesterday who said "not familiar with topical diseases). Blood work was done today- results to follow. If he does have it then it would be a milder form which just has to work it's way through with R&R and liquids. I will also look for a specialist if no improvement after today. This link talks about the outbreak specifically in Costa Rica
