Cozumel
My husband and I and another couple are thinking of planning a trip to Cozumel. We have been to Acapulco and they have been to Cancun. We are looking for something less "Spring-breakish". My husband and I are divers. The other couple enjoys snorkeling.

Please give me any advice you would have about diving in Cozumel and what that accomodations and the atmosphere is like.

Thanks

Cozumel is more laid back than Cancun. Great snorkeling can be found at a park on the east (can't remember the name of it right now, but it's popular so someone there will know) that is second only to the Great Barrier Reef. We saw more colorful tropical life there then we did on a recent trip to Molikini Crater in Maui.

We don't dive, so can't give you any advice. But there were lots of dive services around.
Hi Kim, Coz is a wonderful place to dive and relax and consume great food. Then there is also Carlos & Charlies. My son and I do a father/son dive trip each year. The above post refered to Chankanab Park which is south of town on the west coast. The beaches on the east coast are hazardous and not recomended for swimming.
Check out www.aldora.com. Dave has lots of good info on diving and the island.
email me if you have any specific qestions. I'm just getting ready to book next spring's trip.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT...I am a TA and that place and Playa del carmen are my personal favorites. I suggest if often to clients looking for something less like spring break..I know what you mean. Great diving and snorkeling..if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me, I am familiar with most of the resorts. You will love it!!! Friendly people. I have to admit I loved it more 10-15 years ago with Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood (open when I was there in February, closed when I was there in May!!) I really miss some of the lovely little places we used to stop at years ago, that are now gone. But that is the same in much of the Caribbean and Mexico..25 years ago St Thomas was heaven, now...to crowded. My latest find..Roatan..love it, been there twice this year going in January again. We are trying a new place, Puerto Aventuras south of Playa del carmen next month..maybe it will be nice. Have a nice vacation!

Cozumel is great! We stayed at the Fiesta Inn just south of town, and the snorkeling from our beach was the best we found. It's an easy walk to town from this hotel, my other suggestion would be to stay at the Plaza Las Glorias just down the road. Make sure you eat at Pepe's for a fabulous meal at bargain prices!

Hi, Kim.

My wife and I took the advice of others from this site and stayed at the Presidente Intercontinental Resort in March. We have been to Maui several times before and Cozumel has much clearer water. The snorkeling or diveing at the resorts private beach was excellent!!!!! The food their was also very good and we never got sick.. The resort is beautiful, and the staff is very helpful. The rooms are large and very clean. You get all the bottled water you want. It's only a $3.00 taxie ride into town, one way. Go see the Mayan ruins they are unbelievable. Have fun, Louie.

What fun you will have!! My husband and I went there and fell in love! If you enjoy setting your own schedule and experiencing true Mexico, you will love this place. We went on a "snorkling" catamaran ride which was one of our funnest days. Our other funnest day was to rent a moped and tour around the entire island. The scenery was beautiful and unspoiled. We also enjoyed our horseback ride through through the forest and along the beach. The town had just the right amount of party atmosphere and local flavor (we stayed away from "Carlos N Charlie's, etc"). Hope you enjoy your trip - we are going to Akumal, Mexico this fall and are hoping for the same fun and romance as Cozumel!
