Costa Rica - Biesanz Bay snorkeling?

Our family of nine adults is taking our first trip to Costa Rica (my first trip outside US) to celebrate my son's earning a doctorate in plant ecology. I'd like to hear from anyone who has snorkeled Biesanz Bay, since what I've been reading about snorkeling near Manuel Antonio on this site has been negative. My son really wants to snorkel but we'll pass if it isn't worth it. I'll list our itinerary, will welcome any suggestions.
3/5 Montana De Fuego- 1 nt. to view lava (I've got my fingers crossed); 3/6 half day wildlife boat tour on Lake Arenal, boat & 4/4 to Monteverde; 3/6,7,8 Trapp Lodge, SkyWalk & Skytrek on the 8th, night walk, butterfly garden, Casem Co-op; 3/9 transfer to Quepos, Hotel Karahe 3/9,10,11- Damas Island Boat Tour, walks thru Manuel Antonio Park; 3/12 Hotel Colinas de Sol in Atenas (some of our group is leaving next day) 3/13 tranfer to La Selva Biological Station for 4 nights, river boat tour, birdwatching, night walk; last night Hotel Colinas de Sol.
Thanks in advance for any input-
Lyn

Costa Rica is not the best snorkeling spot. If u can bring your own gear , u can have a bit of snorkeling off Beach 3 inside the park , and a bit at Beisanz . If u have to pay big bucks , do not do it . Mediocre at best ... LOTS of other great stuff though !!

If you decide you want a little more than the bare bones that La Selva offers for lodging, I would like to suggest La Quinta de Sarapiqui. It isn't far from La Selva. If you have the opportunity, I would also like to recommend Joel as a guide at La Selva. He has been there longer than just about anyone. We spent a whole day with him last year and were very impressed with his knowledge.

Congrats to your son! Our son has a degree in plant ecology and is working for the government out in Calif. He is taking a break from his education now. His advisor specialized in tropical plants and after graduating, our son spent several months living in Monteverde learning more about the plants up there.
