Christmas Trip...Questions

We will be staying at a private villa at Los Suenos using CR Luxury for 9 days...we are not the big resort type ....I know that is what Los Suenos is !!! I have been several times fishing in CR but this is my family coming (and mother-in-law)and where I went before is probably not best for them.... ok enough rambling...here are my questions

* what are some nice Restuarants in Jaco
* we have decided NOT to do Arenal..too long of drive we think...have we made a mistake ?
* we are going to do ATV tour, waterfall Canopy tour's,kayaking & 3 days of fishing aboard "Spanish Fly"....any thoughts or concerns ??
* I have contacted Leo Rodriguez about his services too

What should our expectations be regarding Los Suenos and Jaco...I have heard that Jaco might be a little "seedy" in spots..just we have any concerns there??

Many Thanks for everyone's help and Happy Thanksgiving to ALL

a nice restaurant in jaco, good luck!
i'd stay in los suenos if i was u, jaco is awful!!!
jaco is famous here for prostitutes, overdevelopment, crime and drugs.
la fortuna is famous for an active volcano, wildlife reserve-cano negro- hot springs, waterfalls and great hotels and restaurants.
its about 4 hours drive from jaco to la fortuna, your choice.

I have to agree with the above. Jaco is not the best of Costa Rica by any means, and it's sure not known for nice restaurants, good beach, or anything else except partying. Instead of skipping the drive to Arenal, I'd stay in Arenal and skip Jaco.

Are you planning some time in Manuel Antonio/Quepos area? You'll find plenty of good restaurants there if you drive in a couple of days--it isn't all that far. Also, how about spending some time at Carara Biological Reserve? And Turu-Bari Park? Both are fairly close.

I don't think you're going to have any trouble finding lots of great stuff to do (besides what you already have planned). You'll not be hanging out in Jaco--no reason to, although it might be interesting to you to check it out one of the days you are there.

And you may NOT want to do that long drive to Arenal, especially if you are paying for a private villa at Los Suenos. You'd need to stay at least one night in Arenal. You can always do that another trip.

You'll have a great time--just relax and enjoy! AND, most importantly, your mother-in-law is going to have a wonderful time!

thanks for the comments....I have heard the Jaco was a little rough.....Our children are 22,20 & 17 ( I am sure they would get in all kinda trouble there)...I remember reading somewhere about a very nice restuarant near Los Suenos on top of a hill/mountain ??

Villa Caletas Hotel maybe? It's nearby and on a hilltop.

We had a very nice meal at a restaurant right on the beach in Jaco. Not super upscale but not seedy either. Can't remember the name but it was on the corner of a street. We were driving through town with the beach to our right. We took a right and it was the last business on the left about a block down.

Villa Caleta is a great place to go for a sunset one night if nothing else. It is very different. Don't see why they wouldn't be open Christmas. They are a full service hotel. I would call from your hotel to make a reservation if you plan on going.
