Changing airports in Sao Paulo
On the last day of our vacation in Brazil, my wife and I will be flying into the regional airport in Sao Paulo in the mid-afternoon and then departing from the international airport at midnight. So, not only do we need to go from one airport to another, but even if we arrive 2 hours ahead of our evening flight, there will be at least 6 hours to kill in between. I'm wondering if you think Varig will check our bags all the way to the US and actually transfer them between the airports or if we need to lug them with us. If they take care of them, then we will probably just go into Sao Paulo for dinner and then to the international airport. Also, does anyone know if there is a shuttle service between the two airports?
Thanks

Yes, there is "The Airport Bus" that can transfer you between CGH and GRU. You can also use it to go to various points in the city. I used the bus between GRU and the city and I saw buses at GRU bound for CGH. I am guessing there are others from CGH to town. Actually, that airport is in town and I think you can use the subway.
Taxis are not expensive, though. I think the bus fare from Centro to GRU was around US$12 and the taxi was US$24. That's the ballpark, anyway.
I think I have a brochure with an ad about a charriascurra (sp?) restaraunt that I can recommend. Will see if I can find it if you are interested.

I am going to have a layover at GRU, but the difference I have is that I have switching airlines, ie GOL to Delta. Does the GRU airport still have a service where you get check in your bags and go grab dinner? If so what is the cost and where would you suggest to go for seafood nearby. Thx.

Hi Mediterraneo, let's see if I can help you on that...
There's 2 ways you can go from Congonhas Airport (regional) to the International airport:
a)Airport service (bus). The site is http://www.airportbusservice.com.br/eg_linhas.htm#3i
b) Taxi: by taxi it will cost about 30 USD if you go straight to the airport.
It worth mention that the 2 airports are about 1 hour distance. If you go from one to another from 5pm to 8pm, please take into consideration that it can be 1,5 hour.
If you want some restaurant idea to go dining, in Sao Paulo you can find everything you want. If you are looking for good beefs/barbecue, you can go to "Fogo de Chao" (churrascaria) about 5 minute car from Congonhas (regional) airport.
Feel free to ask if you need more info..

It's important to inform that the international airport is far from the city and there's no good options for dinner nearby. You should contact Varig and see if they would take your bags in Congonhas and transfer them to Guarulhos so you can stay in Sao Paulo for dinner and take a taxi later. There's no options close to Guarulhos and the airport itself is not a good place to stay for that long.
