Car rentals?
I posted this earlier, but I think I didn't put it in the Costa Rica forum--oops!
We need to rent a 4x4 (Daihatsu Terios type) for May-June, and these are price quotes that I've gotten for 13 days (includes taxes, basic CDW/LDW/theft, and extra driver. Do these seem about right or are they high?
Tricolor $648
Toyota-Rent-A-Car $676
Mapache (through Orbit) $663 (extra driver?)
Avis Costa Rica $699
Adobe $726
Dollar $788
Alamo $848
Thrifty $920
Any bad experiences or recommendations for any of these? How do you book with Tricolor? Haven't seen a lot about Toyota--they also offer an insurance called DAW, damage accessory waiver, for minor car damages like broken windows, tires, antenna, etc--$2.50 a day--is this advisable?
This is so confusing!! I'm going to call my credit card to see about the CDW being covered, except the small print mentions something about off-road travel being an exclusion--I'm wondering if they consider the road to Monteverde off-road?

Those prices seem about right for the 2 weeks you will be there; a little over $300/week. You might see if you can shave some off by checking with your credit card issuer to determine if they cover any portion of the insurance. Make sure to get e-mail confirmation of your rates and take copies with you.

Have read many postings here and on the aol board about Tricolor, with very few exceptions all have been very positive. In fact, you should enter "Tricolor" in the search box here and I"ll bet you'll find a bunch.
Have only rented from Adobe and Elegante myself and had no problems with either - though found Adobe more efficient.
