Car rental in Cancun
Is this a dicey proposition? Our travel agent wants to "steer" us toward her favorite car agcy., saying the majors (e.g. Avis, Dollar) aren't run above-board down there.
Also: for zero-deductible, all-inclusive auto rental policy, plus the one-day rental, does $90 (for a 4-seater) sound right, too high, or suspiciously low?
Your recommendations welcome.
Thx.

$90 for one day sounds high to me. We rented an economy car from Hertz this summer for 4 days, around $128, but we don't take all the extra insurance.
Hertz was great, Executive the year before was even better, but too expensive this year. I've heard Avis is fine...

I think it depends also upon the time of year you're renting. I'm paying $158 for six days in Dec from Hertz without any insurance. I'll add on the $11/day extra insurance.
I've also rented from Easyway, Executive and Budget without problems.
Once you start adding on all the extra insurance the price can double easily from the base rate. Do a search online of the major car rental agencies in Cun and you'll get a good idea but you have to read the insurance part specifically to see what you will be charged.
I'd be curious just to know which rental she was suggesting.

Do your research re. insurance add ons. Contact your credit card company, ask what they cover. The Cabo San Lucas tripadvisor forum had a wonderful thread about it, with lots of info - worth a search. I don't think it's necessary to get all the coverage...
