Anther great one for that would be Royal Playa del Carmen. It is in Playa del Carmen which is such a cute trendy town. Great for evening walks. The resort is also beautiful with a nice stretch of beach. They do not do many of the "cheesy" pool games I've seen at other resorts. It is really very nice and gives you an escape from the resort with a great little town.

Excellence Riviera Cancun would be excellent for relaxing - they are beautiful resorts, lots of restaurant choices, wonderful spas, and lots of activities from the relaxing to the active. These resorts have been getting rave reviews and return visits for a few years now.
You might also look at Royal Hideaway Playacar, Secrets Resorts or the El Dorado Royale in the same area.
Cancun is a big city on a beach, similar to Miami. If you want to relax and sit on the beach, going south to the Riviera Maya and Playa del Carmen is perfect.
Best Regards,
Julia

Since your wife is pregnant you might want to reconsider an AI. Since a major part of the AI cost covers the unlimited drinks and she won't be drinking (we hope) then you might be better off in a small hotel in Playa Del Carmen and eating at the many excellent places along 5th Avenue and off of 5th. Just a thought.
