Hi folks,
This is to all the experience travelers
if Cancun. My daughter and her
classmates of her graduating class,
ages 17 to 18 years,with chaperones,
will be leaving for Cancun May 13th,
2001. Are there any warnings, advice
or recommedations out there? They will
be staying at the Costa Real. Anyone
know anything about this hotel? Good or
bad? The class will be there from Sun-
Thurs. Recommended amount of money to
bring for expenses outside of hotel?

Of course, I know that she will be
drinking, that's what it is all about
when you are 18. I trust her but; I do
not trust Cancun. What precautions
should she take, such as on this "Booze
Cruise"? Appreciate all your help.
This is my baby chic and her first big
trip away from home. Need reassurance
that things will be safe for her.

Thanks again.

Jenn

My words of advice to you and your daughter about going to Cancun are:
Be very careful! It will be a wonderful trip and I think she will be fine. I went on a senior trip myself 10 years ago and I thank my parents for letting me go. Anyway, I have been to Cancun 3x and it is great. I would caution her about being out in the clubs. If she is drinking I would make sure someone in the group be sober. Please be very leary of men buying you drinks. Unless you see the bartender pour it, I would not accept a drink from a stranger. Even a bottle of water. There are creepy guys everywhere here and in Cancun that prey on young cute drunk girls out at the clubs. People can slip something into a drink and the girls won't know what happened to them. I am not trying to scare you, just make you aware. DO NOT TAKE DRINKS FROM A STRANGER!! That is my 2 cents!! Have fun and take the Jungle Tour, it is awesome!

Hey Tommy. My friends and I are leaving in a few days for Cancun. I just wanted some more information about the nightlife. What are your favorite clubs? Which ones should we not miss? Also, is it true that there is a $20 cover charge for every club, and once you're in, all the drinks are free? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi Lauren! I was in Cancun last year for spring break. The best and funnest clubs are: Dady-O, CocoBongo, LaBoom, and Senior Frog's. Yes, you pay $20 for a wristband to get you into these clubs. To get your drinks once you're inside, give the server $1 or 2 in tips. Otherwise, you will wait a while for your "free drinks". Have tons of fun, the clubs don't start happening until 11 or midnight.

We are a group of 8 women traveling on our girls trip to Cancun the first week of June and would like to either charter a catamaran or go on a party cruise. We are a "fun" group and would like to get some information on available charters and/or cruises. If we charter our own, do you have any recommendations as to private boats with fun skippers? My thought is to not necessarily have to go with big outfits that are strictly "tourist driven." I do realize that the cruise boats are not private, so there I would just be looking for a recommendation.

I'm interested in the Baccara hotel in Cancun because it sounds more intimate and quaint than some of the giant international resorts. Is it very special, or just ok?

I will be staying at the Flamingo and wondered what dive shop is closest to the hotel?

Also, do you have to be a licensed scuba diver in order to dive in Mexico? Do they offer a quick diving course in Cancun?

My friend and I are going to Cancun June 8th -15th and staying at the Cancun Palace. What is the hotel like? And what suggestions do you have for us to do for the nightlife? We are both 21 years old.

Hi Tommy,

Curious if you can help me decide where to go in Cancun. Travel agent recomended Moon Palace but most say beach is full of seaweed and it's far from Cancun. I'm going with my cousin, we're both single and 30, is Riviera Maya the place to be, or should we look into Cancun or Cozumel. Any info would be appreciated.

thanks.

Hi, this is a great thread, I hope you can help me out. I'm going to Cancun for a conference from July 13 to July 23 (during which I will put in a 4 days vacation as well). Where should I stay?
The conference is at the Convention Center at Punta Cancun (near the Camino Real hotel). Should I stay in a hotel near the convention center or downtown, where I hear there are economic hotels/hostels?
How far is downtown from Punta Cancun and how is the transportation?
Where is all the nightlife action, downtown or Punta Cancun? Is downtown dangerous? Does anybody know an economic but decent hotel downtown or elsewhere? How is the Holiday Inn downtown?
Thanks, Matt

My husband and I are planning an anniversary trip to Cancun. We have two dates of travel to choose from, 9-29 for a week or 10-27 for a week. We also plan on staying at the Hotel y Villas Solaris (timeshare). Can you provide some insight as to which date would be better regarding the weather and at which end of the strip this hotel is located at?

Hi Tommy!
Going to Cancun soon and planning to stay at the Ritz-Carlton. Is snorkeling close or would a different location be better? I would prefer a 'nicer' resort...hence the Ritz-Carlton seems to be our first chioce. Beach, snorkeling and fine resort I guess would be our most important items we would be looking for.

We are looking at going to Cancun x-mas 2001 and staying at the Flamingo, it seems to be the most reasonable package. We are taking our 19 year old. I don't really want a lot of young kids. What is the average age group? Is it clean? How is the pool, the picture doesn't look great? Does it get sun all day or is it shaded by the building? The beaches? It is all inclusive is the restaurant satisfactory? Give me all the details you know please.

hey tommy,
is it possible to go to cancun and experience all the luxury of the beaches and nightlife without a hotel? I'm 17 and want to just pitch a tent on the beach, or stay in (the equivalent of) a hostel, if we are not generously offered to share a room here and there. Am I dreaming? Anywhere on the gorgeous yucatan to do this?

this is really cool of you!
-nique

Is it possible to avoid the college spring breakers in early March? Where should I stay in Cancun that caters to the over 30 crowd? I would appreciate any advice you can offer
