CABO

We will be staying at the Marina Fiesta Hotel in April and so far what I have been reading is that the prices of food is expensive. We have a 16 yr old son who can eat alot, and the hotel room has a kitchen - question are there grocery stores nearby and is it worth it to cook meals in the room?
Also are the beaches safe to swim in and would we need to rent a car to get around?
Thanks

Blake, sorry I don't know anything about the hotel you are staying at, but yes, there are grocery stores in downtown Cabo. The food seems to be a little higher, and we didn't price meat. We found some restaurants that were inexpensive, just by walking around and checking out the menus that were posted. Some beaches are safe, but many are not. Be certain to read the signs or ask at the hotel. You can walk around Cabo easily, but a car would be nice if you want to see other areas like LaPaz or San Jose del Cabo. Public busses will take you for just a few pesos. They are safe to ride...at least during the day time. Check out www.allaboutcabo.com for one website.

We have stayed in Cabo several times and always make sure we have a kitchen. Food is indeed expensive and sometimes not too good. If you want very good and cosmopolitan food try Ediths but be prepared for a VERY large bill. There is another place off the main drag in Cabo that has famous deep fried snapper that is wonderful and not as pricey as other places. I cannot remember the name - just know how to get there! Try to stay away from the advertised lobster at the white condos by Edith's - very expensive and very, very bad. And, they promise to refund your money but don't. Along the main harbour, there are several very good hamburger places and the like that are not too expensive. Have fun and good luck.

My husband and I go to Cabo twice a year to fish. We've been going for the last 10 years. There's a good resterant in Marina Sol Condos, The Oasis. Very good and reasonable. Also a Burger King and Pizza Hut in town. Anew McDonalds also has been added. We do take outs from a native place "Pollo de Oro, good ribs and chicken, very cheap. Hope this helps. If you want to know about fishing, send me an e-mail

Expensive compared to what??? Have the people who told you that it's expensive to eat there actually been there??? It's been my experience that you can certainly eat out cheaper in Cabo than any major city in the states if you look around a little. After 4 trips I can count all of the bad meals I've had in Los Cabos on one hand. Don't despair, you'll have a great time, and it won't cost you nearly as much as you think.
