Cabo
I like Steph's mind frame - A friend and I are traveling to Cabo for New Years - any suggestions? Early to mid 30's, recently divorced woman - like partying, but no longer intensely; love meeting people and exploring. We are staying at the Mila San Lucas.

My family will be there over Xmas. I have read some bad press about the time-share hawkers. Anybody have any strategies to deflect them? No eye contact? Deaf maybe? Point to next guy and say "Ask my rich uncle?"
How about a card to hand them? If you are walking, you can breeze on by, but what if you are a sitting duck on the beach? I can deal with trinket vendors, but my patience may run out after saying "No gracias" mil veces.

Jules- you will have no problem finding plenty of places to party. Just talk to people when you get there! Everyone will tell you where and what is going on!
Justsayno- take your own advice. When I get approached by timeshare people I say "NO THANK YOU" that's it and I keep going. I don't hesitate, I don't listen to their great deals, I just say no! No gracias!!! If you are on the beach say no, if they don't leave ask them to. Most beaches are owned by hotels so they have a rope off area where venders cant go, get the hotel/beach guys to ask them to vamas!!

Wendy tells it best. When walking downtown or in another area and they approach you, just smile, say no gracias and keep walking. They are persistant but they are also smart and remember faces. They will still approach you but not with as much aggression after you breeze right on by them a couple of times.

The trinket vendors are another story. Don't make eye contact. Look the other way and unfortunately you must be somewhat rude or you will never get rid of them. I found them to be much more annoying than the time share hawkers.

If you go to the office or some other such beach bar, they are really bad.

Again, do not make eye contact. Ignore is the best rule. And don't feel bad about being rude, they are used to it.

WATCH OUT FOR BAD THINGS WITH VIAJES XPLORA ADVENTUR. They are situated in the lobby of the Westin and at other resorts. They provide the packages for fishing and other excursions. The guy charged us one amount and then my credit card statement showed a price higher of $35. Then, they didn't take us on the full 4 hour trip and stole our fish. THEN, they stole $50 from my purse and credit card and charged an additional $175. Talk about "ah carrumba".
