Buenos Aires "restaurants not be missed"

We just returned on Sunday and had a wonderful trip! WOW!!!! It gives many destinations a run for the money... I'll give a small trip report shortly when I can get my life in order.
Casa Cruz
Cluny
Dominga
Central
Los Lineas (spelling)
La Brigada
Osaka (sushi) I know why would you go to BA and order sushi. Well, two guys that sat next to us from Japan said it was as good as home or better! huh
For drinks Faena hotel not to be missed.
Highly recommend ART SUITES great location and wonderful staff. Not to mention, $110.00 US cash ,a real bargain! I will report within the next day. Appreciate all the info. I received from everyone.

Yay! We have a reservation at Casa Cruz for this Saturday night! Glad to hear how much you loved BA. We fly there tomorrow!! I am especially excited to be packing all summer clothes (hope I'm right with the weather expectation!)

Just returned from Buenos Aires, weather was very variable, one day it was terribly hot, next day temperature would drop to the point of getting a fairly cold day. I would say that in general it was hot , pack an umbrela, and a light sweater or coat too.
Have fun, enjoy great food at really unbelievable prices.

Hi skatedancer, I do not know if you care for musicals, ...we saw Sweet Charity in the teatro Lola Membribes in calle Corrientes and enjoyed it a lot.
+The very best tickets are only 25 dollars, and can be bought by phone by ticketmaster for a small fee.

Hola !
The weather today is warm and sunny with bright blue skies and a soft breeze. Such a beautiful day in Buenos Aires!!
Scott, we are in the Art Suites too, we had a noisy room on the 5th floor so they put us up on the top floor, only 2 suites up there so we are really happy with the hotel and the room.
We are going to Cluny too, good to hear you liked it.
We might go to the casino, today is shopping in <Palermo and to the gardens and parks..we walk miles a day here, wonderful city. I think we are in love

Hi Scarlet, I have recommended Art Suites to my son and family (2 adult to children) but in reality I have never stayed there. They shall be in Bs As on Nov 27.
You say you had some problem with noise in there?
But are happy now. Can you tell us more about Art suites,? Actually I check the two room apart while I was in Bs As a few days back, I thought some plants, flowers and pictures were missing. But is the service good, how does breakfast work.?
Hope you have time to answer. Did you take your own computer? Is connection good?
and above all how did you find location?
Hope you are having fun, it seems you are, have a great time in Bs As.

I am still going to write a report! Maybe this weekend. As far as Art Suites we stayed in 4b and yes you could hear occasionally the person over you, but you will get that in any old world hotel. If you stay please say hello to Herman the front desk person. A really nice, friendly and knowledgeable person eager to give so much info on BA a very proud Argentine!

Grazie,
The hotel was very nice and the location great as well! I would say Art Suites was a great value with kind and frindly people. I will add though, It's not our typical stay. Not to sound like a snob, but we normally stay at a more upscale establishment! We have heard many raves about it and thought let's try something a little less$$ and spend more on other things. We made a great choice. As far as, breakfast it's "continental" coffee, tea fresh orange juice and crossants. They deliver it to the room every morning when you specify time at check-in. We always gave 5 pesos as tip and would leave 10 pesos on bed when we left the room for the day. The cleaning staff were very grateful. The rooms were very clean and furniture starting to show a little age but it could be over looked for the price. Also there was a safe which was important. We also enjoyed the small frigerator. We would get meats and cheeses, crackers, water just across the steet. This was very convenient.Other than that we were in our room only to take showers and get ready for that 11:30 pm dinner reservation. That took a couple of days to get use to.I have to say we really liked the life style. So over all I plan on staying at Art Suites again. It makes perfectly good sense.

Hi Scottstig, thank you for your posting. It was what I had hoped to hear. My son's family is composed of a couple and two children 8-11 so I thought it would be good for them to be in one suite all together.
After I put them on that boat I was a little uneasy but I am glad to know that you had a good time there.

Also just got back from BA - Casa Cruz is not to be missed. Bar Uriarte is also great - either for a quick bite/drink or for a planned meal. Didn't go, but have local friends who really like Sucre. re: sushi in BA, it depends where you are from - if you live in Sushi hotbed like NY or LA, don't go for sushi in BA.

Regarding sushi I agree why would you travel so far and eat sushi! But if you eat a lot of sushi as me. I get the cravings and must have. The sushi at Osaka is wonderful if not the best I have had including NY, LA or even Asia. So if you must have sushi try Osaka. That's where the locals go if they can afford it. It's not cheap even for US$$$$ but worth it. IMO

Skatedancer, I assume you mean this Saturday the 4th. I hope your reservation is for 10pm or better to really get the ambiance. We ate their twice and it really started happening after 11pm. Thursday night is when a lot of the locals go. It's a great place owned by a young guy named Juan. We were introduced to him by a couple that we met that have been living in BA from LA. They seemed to know everyone that's how we found about some of the restaurants mentioned. I would also recommend Dominga the food was fabulous as well

Scott, Herman says hello back to you ..
The ArtSuites is a charming hotel but you have to adjust to not having the typical American wonder beds and towels etc. The service is very good, the people working here are all so nice and helpful, everyone has a smile for you and they love to practice their English. We are charmed every day with the people here. We particularly like the neighborhood where the ArtSuites is located.
I think it depends on the room and the floor as to how quiet it is, we are extremely pleased with the room on the top floor. The noise is from other rooms, soundproofing is lacking, we are in the back so we hear nothing from the street.
I am not a fan of the coffee at the hotel but breakfast is sufficient to get you out of the room and to a nice place to eat more if you need. We are ok with what they give us here or we go to a place called Como en Casa, on Riobamba..We are at an internet cafe .. they are everywhere.
Hasta luego

Si, we ate at Casa Cruz last night! I am logging in from the Home Hotel, which I LOVE. Tranquil, stylish, with a magical garden (the website photos don't do this justice.)

Everyone in my party loved Casa Cruz. Afterwards, we went to a dance club in the basement of the Armenian Cultural Center, which was filled with the locals (we were there with a Porteno friend.) There is a set time for the different dance styles; we arrived at 1:30, and waited an hour for the tango (in the meantime, we enjoyed getting out on the floor for the salsa and merengue sets; didn't really have to know any specific dance moves for these) and then watched tango which began at 2:30. They cleared out the floor between each type of music by playing some Madonna! The dress was very casual (we were the dressiest ones there) and there were people of all ages. Everyone was there strictly for dancing; not for a club scene per se. Alot of fun!

Bought two great leather jackets yesterday at Patio Bullrich. Since i"m on vacation, I spent much more than I would have shopping for myself at home, but I'm hoping that I still paid less than I would have in the States for these kind of clothes! Balanced it out with my two US$15 belts at the hippie fair at Recoleta!

Loved visiting the lobbies of the Faena, the Alvear Palace and the new Palacio Duhao. Whether or not you stay at these places, I would put these down as a must on the tourist itinerary! The hotel staff are very welcoming, whether you are a guest or not. Had a great tea (not high tea menu because I wasn't hungry enough) at the Alvear. the best piece of chocolate I ever ate!

Guess my replies are not exactly just about restaurants, but I hope you enjoy reading this mini mid-trip report! Off to my special morning juices -- yesterday's housemade apple - mint juice was incredible; can't wait to see what they concoct today!

Ciao.

Skatedancer,

La Viruta (basement of the Armenian Social Club) is a fun way to spend an evening! They sometimes do oldies rock....South Carolina Beach Music to show off your Shag moves before Tango begins....
