Back from Bosque del Cabo

You all know the splendors of Bosque, so i'll save all the BS about the wonderful staff, accommodations, and food. Instead i'll post a link to a few of the many reptiles and amphibians I saw while "herping" the grounds.

Let me know if you have any questions and THANK YOU so much to Alan, Tully, volcanoegirl and all the rest for your suggestions and tips!!!

- Joe

Wow, Joe, those are beautiful photos! I'd love to know the stories of where you saw all of them. Where was the Fer de Lance? It looks like you were in heaven.

Did you find all of those snakes at Bosque?!! Makes me wonder just how many of those things were slithering around while I was there and I was (thankfully) oblivious to them all!

Nice photos. Love the frogs!

Thanks for the kind words. It was a great trip! Yep, all right on the trails and grounds of bosque. course, to say i looked harder than the average guest would be an understatement.

Thanks again volcanogirl for your help before i left. PS - my bag ended up being 35 pounds and i didn't even get charged for it being over ;-)

Lucky duck - I'm glad you got to bring everything with you. It looks like one of the snakes gave you a nasty little bite.

Awesome pictures Joe! Sounds like you had a very successful trip. Also, by the looks of the pictures, there must be a story or two to share as well. So, when you have a chance, do share how and where you found some of these critters.

Wow what wonderful pics, glad you had a great time and looks like you got what you desired! And got all your luggage on to boot! Would love to hear the stories behind some of the photos. I wonder how many times I've walked past one of those brown vine snakes?!

I've never thought of snakes as pretty, but some of the colors and patterns really are cool.

Excellent photos, love the frogs and lizards. Guess you must have an super zoom lens because you are much closer to the snakes than what I want to be!! I only saw three snakes on my last trip, enough for me...

Fabulous photos but I have to tell you I am so happy that none of my travelling companions get on Fodors. We will be at BdC in May and I planned the whole trip around staying there. My husband isn't even too keen on going to the rainforest(we get enough rain here in Akron and we usually go to places with less rain than we have--but he loves me and just wants to make me happy--or else he wants to shut me up. I have been begging to go to BdC for 3 years.) I sent a travelogue posted earlier to my friend and she was creeped out about the biting ants. My lips are sealed on this one. This album is not being forwarded by me.

Aren't some of these snakes poisonous?

Linda, I didn't do the night hike for that very reason. I didn't want to know what was out there. The Fer de Lance is extremely poisonous.

Thanks very much for all the compliments on the photos. And thanks to you too hipvirgochick, I'd meant to include you in the list of thanks for help before I left.

For those concerned about the snake pics i took... don't be. you have to really really look for them.

volcanogirl is right about that fer-de-lance, except that the word you would use is "venomous"... the dart frogs, butterflies, and fungi are poisonous and the snakes, spiders and jellyfish are venomous That "Terciopelo" as they call it in Costa Rica is a very very dangerous animal. That one i took pictures of was crossing a trail at night after a rainshower. I followed it at a distance until it curled up in a tree buttress where I snapped a few pics
