Argentina Honeymoon: Wineries vs. Iguazu

We're going on our honeymoon next week to Argentina! While we have most of the trip sketched out, we were thinking of sqeezing in a winery (Mendoza or others?)for day and a half trip from BA or from some other destination point in our schedule. We hear we can't do a day trip as wineries are too far. What do you recommend and how or do you think it is simply too much travel time? Or would people recommend skipping Iguazu at the end of our trip in favor of the wine region?

Here are more details. We arrive around 11AM on Dec 7th and want to be sure to have ~4 days in BA to fully rest and enjoy the city. We catch an afternoon flight on the 11th to El Calafate. On the 14th, we head to Torres De Paines and depart on the 18th for BA, arriving at midnight. We have already booked the hotel in Torres de Paines and cannot change this part of the itinerary. We take a morning flight on the 19th to Iguazu and return on the 21st to BA and then home to JFK.

Thanks so much for your help.

I have never been to Mendoz or Iguazu, so this is not really an informed reply, but I think that you can visit wineries in other places, but you cannot see a wonder like the falls so easily. From what I read, the falls are incredible. I also think you can do the falls in just a day, but visiting the wine country might be more enjoyable done on a more leisurely time fram.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

We spent six days in BsAs in late Oct.: Iguazu was worth a 2 day visit, but our three days were too much.
After visiting wineries world wide, and drinking very many for very many decades, I would suggest you stay in BsAs and enjoy all of the entire city.

Enjoyed Iguazu in late Aug despite low water, and would think you would enjoy that area and a nature break from the busy city life of BA. The falls are back to high level which makes them awesome and the vegetation, animals, birds, make for wonderful walks along the upper and lower trails. I wouldn't trade it for touring the wine region at this time since it is early in the growing season. You will find wonderful wines anywhere in Argentina without going directly to the winery. My option would be to enjoy the additional time in BA and avoid more time spent travelling. BA is a vibrant, exciting city and a great choice for a memorable honeymoon! Enjoy!

Travelguide: Skatedancer can not talk about Mendoza, but I think she ment Salta, when she said "other places" Cafayate is perfec with its unique white wine torrontes. Varied sceneries, much sun and good wine!
Do not miss Purmamarca ed teh Salt Flats.
