I am trying to plan flight schedules for our trip to Peru and need to know how long it would take to get to and from Parador del Colca(near canyon rim)to the airport in Arequipa.We plan to stay at the Parador for 2 nights and don't want to book too early a flight on the 3rd day out of Arequipa because of travel time from the Canyon.
I know the trip is on rough dusty roads but we really want to see the Canyon and condors.
All insights and information will be greatly appreciated.

I would plan on a good 5-6 hours from the condor site. It is not a fun ride. But the Parador del Colca was charming. We really enjoyed the place. The altitude is really high, so you may want to take some medicine. We rented a private car for the trip. I thought well worth it. We had more flexibility on what we did. Arequipa also has some interesting sites.

I think we will have a rental car also for about 3 days. Did you have any problems finding auto services in the area(fuel,water,air,etc.)?

As Lana said, the altitude is quite high. At one point in our drive the altitude reached 15 thousand feet, and our driver never stopped munching his coca leaves (nor did I, for that matter). The leaves are very effective and cost almost nothing.

When in Rome...

I am leaving for Peru on Thursday and will be staying at the Parador del Colca. I was wondering what the temps were like at night in that area?
