Any advice on Buenos Aires guide book choice?
I'm considering
* Time Out Buenos Aires (July 2008)
* A Hedonists Guide to Buenos Aires (May 2007)
I haven't used TO guides that often but was impressed with the Marrakesh one.
Have never come across the Hedonist series before.
I would also have liked to look at the Eyewitness Top 10 guide but that's not coming out till the new year. Besides, I usually like their full guides but not as keen on their Top 10 ones.
I'd normally also consider Insight Guides but there doesn't seem to be any recent edition for BA.
I'm not a fan of Lonely Planet or Rough Guide.
Any thoughts?
THANKS
(PS I'm just about to work through the advice provided in my other BA thread and will have some questions to come back with there)

I'm afraid Fodors guides don't really suit my travelling style, to be honest, though if I can readily find it here in the UK (without ordering online - I like to flick through guide books before purchasing) I'll consider it. THANKS!

Weekender, as I've not come across the Hedonist guides before, can you give me any idea of style and content? As I've already chosen/ booked my hotel that section is not relevant to me. I'm most interested in history, culture and attractions, also in any suggested routes or itineraries.

The Hedonists guides are compact books with the sole focus on restaurants, hotels and shops, etc., are not guidebooks in the traditional sense. The Time Out book (not the magazine) may be more to your liking but I would check to see when it was published so you are getting current info. My copy was published in 06 and I am not sure if it has been updated.

As per OP, the Time Out was published in July of this year, the Hedonist one in May of last year.
I've checked Footprints and they have an Argentina guide not a BA one.
I think I'll very likely get the TO one and MAY get the Hedonist one too, though we've only got 2 full days so may be overkill.

Actually, I just found a decent offer for the Time Out guide on Amazon uk and as they have currently dropped their supersaver delivery to £5 or over, it cost me £9.09 instead of the regular £12.99. I'm fairly confident I'll like the TO as I generally like their guides.
I might still pick up one of those Hedonist guides if I can find one stocked in any local bookshops, that's the rub though, many have tiny travel guide sections!

Thanks! I wanted to assess first but the guide it gave me when I signed up for the trial is Beirut. I was hoping for somewhere I'd been so I could genuinely judge the recos so that was disappointing.
Unless I can find a hard copy in a local store I probably won't buy that one but if there's any particularly good tips, do please pass them on!

Hi, I am bringing this thread back up, because I would like to buy one book for my trip to BA. I was thinking either Time Out or Moon. Any favorites? We are wanting to explore museums, parks, retaurants, clubs, markets, off the beaten path places, etc. We already have a place to stay.
But, we also will be needing a map. There are several on Amazon.com...any opinions of the best one.
Also, we will be going out of BA a little. Do the BA books have a small section about getting out of town? Mendoza is a destination too. Thanks!
