Hi Pacific Jane:
My friend and I had reservations to stay at Antigua Miraflores in September. Unfortunately when we got there they did not have a record of our reservation, even though we could tell them the name of the person we made the reservation with, and even though we had left a credit card deposit. Because of that I don't know what the rooms are like, but I can tell you (tho' I kinda don't want to!) that the hotel was really cute, and way nicer in appearance than it looked on their website. Obviously it was also very busy, which is probably another very good sign. The hotel is in one of the better parts of Lima, though I would recommend taking taxis around, especially in consideration of how inexpensive they are.

Hi. I would not describe the rooms as old lady-ish. They are what I'd call Spanish Colonial. I was there in 1999, so my information is a bit dated.
The staff was very friendly and spoke limited English. We had no complaints about the service. In fact, I even hired one of their staff to pose for a portrait drawing after his working hours.
Some of the rooms are large, quite new and have whirlpools. Very nice. There are lovely courtyards throughout.
The dining area is quaint and comforable with a nice selection of locally-done artwork. (Mostly watercolor). We had breakfast and some other meals at the hotel and they were fine, but not what I'd call fine dining. I think breakfast was included in our rate and we had a nice variety from which to choose.
I took a look at their website and the photos are terrible! The photos make the place look dingy and dirty and on the contrary the hotel was cheerful and clean. Let's see, now...I don't remember an elevator. My family had a penthouse room on the roof and I think it was on the third floor. Our little home was quite nice and the steps up didn't bother us at all. The furnishings were heavy carved dark wood with bright spreads.
An excellent restaurant, Brujas de Cachiche is just 2 blocks from the hotel and an easy walk. http://www.brujasdecachiche.com.pe/ibien.html
Another choice is La Rosa Nautica http://www.larosanautica.com/ which would be a short taxi ride. I think it would be a long walk in the dark for dinner.
There are other choices also. There is a grocery store and several banks in walking distance, American fast food, Chinese. Many, many choices. I'm sure you'd find cafes and bars in the area. We just weren't into that with our 15 year-old son along. We did eat at the restaurants I mentioned and can highly recommend them.
Have a tremendous trip.
