I stayed at Explorama which I really enjoyed.

I flew into Iquitos. My guide met me. I then took the bus to the boat & took a fast boat up (down?) the Amazon to Explorama Lodge. There was no electricity. Everything was kerosene lamps. But I thought it was beautiful. At night the gas lamps ran down the length of the lodge walkway.
Rooms were very basic. Just a bed & mosquito netting. There was a hook on the inside & outside of the room. When I was in the room I used the hook on the inside. When I left the room I hooked the door on the outside. On one side of the room was a half wall. Just a curtain between me & the forest.
There is no running water but water is pumped from the Amazon for showers. There are pit toilets which surprisingly did not smell too bad.
Meals are served at certain times. They are announced by a gong.
The guide stayed with me all the time. He took me on jungle walks & to visit the Yagua indians. We went fishing for pirahana. We took a boat ride to see the giant water lilies. One of the highlights of my stay was swimming in the Amazon with the Yagua Indian kids. The little girls were really sweet & we were able to communicate in Spanish.
I thought my time at Explorama Lodge was one of the most relaxing times of my life. I went by myself but it is the sort of place where being with a group would be a lot of fun.

Sorry for the long lag time with the response. I just got back from Paris.
The mosquitos in the jungle were tiny, silent & deadly. I never knew I was being bitten. But later, OMG! I was bitten mostly around the edge of my clothing, especially around the edges of my socks. The bites itched so bad, other lodge visitors suggested I might have been bitten by chiggers. But I am sure they were mosquito bites.
Be sure to use mosquito repellant & bring cortisone cream for the bites you DO get.
