We are staying here for 5 nights. Amy suggestions on what kind of room we should request apart from the standard quiet and with a view? Anything more specific? Thanks...very excited...

Aren't you lucky, it is wonderful hotel, the old dame of Buenos Aires hotels. Location too is excellent. I stayed there only once long ago now being over the price I can afford, rooms would be like in any hotel of its kind.
If price is no object ask for a jr. suite, but if not you can also ask for a standard room and check it once you are there and if you do not like it there is always time to pay more. Tea time there is also fantastic do not miss it.

We were in Buenos Aires last month and visited the Alvear, is beautiful, very elegant (like the Plaza, or The Ritz), we had dinner at La Bourgogne and was one of the best dinners (top 10) we ever had.
Just be aware that they are doing some renovations (last month)

Thank you for all the feedback. I am also very excited to be staying at the Alvear as I love old world hotels. I have requested a quiet room with a view if possible - as I will be in and out of the room during the day while my husband is conferencing the feedback re renovation work is esp useful. Thanks again.
