Certainly people have gotten sick at all-inclusives in Mexico from the food, especially buffet-style hwere things sit out or are not properly heated or refrigerated.

Normally you would only drink bottled water in Mexico anyway, so that should not be an issue.
We went to the Blue Bay Getaway All Inclusive-Adults only last year, while we bought bottles water for brushing our teeth and drinking....we never gave a thought to the ice cubes in our drinks, however most good resorts have their own water filtration systems and no one has any problems.. However pack the old Imodium Extra strength just in case. We stayed there for 2 weeks and had no problems until the last day when we went downtown to MacDonald's and had 2 large fountain cokes...big mistake!!!
The food was great, good variety, well chilled, some people complain about AI's but we enjoyed it....heck it beats cooking or going out to restaurants where you have no clue as to the cleaniness or water source and end up paying big bucks.
We are heading back to the same place again this Christmas... its not the Sheraton, but we are just plain old working people who enjoy meeting new
friends and having a good time and not blowing a pile of money just to say we are at the "Sheraton". Our rooms were clean, not a bad size and the PINA COLAS the best in Puerto Vallarta, trust me on this one! If you want any more info just email me....be glad to oblige!
Jan

All the upscale resorts along the hotel zone have purified water. We have gone to Cancun every year for the past 6 years and have never gotten sick from the water. It is safe to drink, brush your teeth, etc. straight from the tap at these resorts.

The Omni has one, if not the best, all inclusive package. It is rated by Travelocity as the best full all inclusive, I believe. They serve top-shelf liquor and even offer a pass for dinner out one evening to your choice of a few restaurants outside the hotel.

Hi Cancun Vacation: back to the original topic at hand....the best all inclusive..if you don't need to be specifically in Cancun, I would suggest Iberostar Pariaso which is about 15 minutes south of the Cancun airport. A beautiful brand new resort (the rooms are spectacular). Or try the RIU Palace in Playa del Carmen (also gorgeous rooms and I find the RIU buffets better than Iberostar...and don't all you folks on this board start screaming at me..I get to have an opinion too!). Then if top notch, no cost concern, then try the Royal Hideaway also in Playa del Carmen (no buffets, all a l carte).
All of these resorts have mini bars packed with bottled water, and if still concern, use the bottled water to brush your teeth. And lay off the multitude of creamy boozy drinks that go down so nicely but can be the culprit when it comes to getting sick! This I remember from my one time (out of 9 all inclusives) of getting the runs.
For reviews go to www.mts.net/~eissner/ for trip reports on these resorts.
Or, you could pick up a new book out called Web's Best Travel Stories of the Mayan Riveria. Sorry about a blatant plug for the book but my trip report on Iberostar Paraiso is in this book!
