Accomodation

Why is it that when people ask for accomodation advice, its seems that people are advertising or soliciting for their own hotels ? We want to hear from people who travel and have no vested interest besides the interest in helping others. STOP advertising here !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have noticed that a lot of people who share their vacation stories also post a link to where they purchased their trip, I see nothing wrong with that, it may even save some of us some money, so keep posting those trip resorts and the links to where you bought them. It has helped me, I purchased a trip to the Xpu-Ha Palace and I almost paid twice as much until a poster put a link up here and I saved myself lots of money.

If you don't like the advertisment don't read it.
John, you're absolutely right, and the palace resorts are among the worst offenders.
This board used to be a great resource, with actual real-life advice from real travelers who had more concerns than just which boring all-inclusive to book. Now it's mostly filled with ``Danas'' who seem to have an agenda of pushing a specific resort.

Actually this has been a problem for a while. When I complained on this forum about someone who advertises frequently, I got a rather nasty note from him, telling me all that he had done in his community and asking me what I had done for Mexico! I don't like the solicitation at all. And Dana, don't just tell us not to read it. Often someone has posted a legitimate note asking for information from fellow travellers and these advertisers are responding. How can we know what it is before we read the post?

John it is funny how people like you complain and complain but fail to put their REAL address down, why is that are you hiding something? I think YOU are the problem and YOU are probably posting all of those advertisments, than looking like the big complainer to stir things up.

As for so many Dana's what does that mean? I see nothing wrong with what she said if you look at all the posts you will see people who HAVE stayed at these resorts, they are just trying to give other people a place to look for when they want to book their trips, I see nothing wrong with that either so Dana I agree.

Why come here if you don't want people's opinons and advise? As long as it is not the actual resort soliciting than leave the people alone and get a life.
If you don't like the resorts that people post about keep your opinions to yourself obviously there must be something good about all of them if so many people rave about them!

Now go stir up another forum jerk!

Sorry, I have to agree with John, johnsright and Susan. I have visited this forum off and on for a few years, (much less frequently these days) and I agree that it has truly gone from an informative site with lots of people offering useful, newsy information on interesting destinations, to one on which far too many posters seem to be advertising a big chain resort at the major beach destinations. And as Susan says, it's hard to know which post is which until you open the post. Now, as to which posts are genuine raves and which are advertisements? Well, since most of the raves about certain properties seem to all read alike, it is fairly easy to spot them after awhile.

And really, there's no reason for you, JJ, to call anyone a jerk. But I think John is perfectly justified in asking that people follow the rules and stop advertising.

I think you should leave the moderating up to the moderator!

I have personally seen only a few posts that are blatant adverts, its pretty easy to spot them. Its great to tell those people to knock it off but who at Fordors has the time to police this stuff all the time? Ask yourself how much you are paying to solict and read the advice in these postings...
