MA is a popular destination so you may not find seclusion, although August is not a peak travel month for CR. We visited MA in early December (which is basically shoulder season) and didn't find it to be particularly crowded (but it wasn't desserted either...).

I haven't been to Dominical yet, but it's on my list. It is a bit more off-the-beaten-track, and I hear there are some very nice beaches along that stretch of coast. If you want something more quiet it might be a good option to check into.
