10 days in Costa Rica in May

Here is today's plan. Any input would be welcomed!
Arrive May 21 9:00 am San Jose.
4 nights @ Almonds and Corals - too long?
2 nights Dominical (northwest side) - flight or rental car?
1 night Jaco or Playa Hermosa - (to be near airport for one traveler to return next day)- travel by car?
3 nights Jaco or Playa Hermosa for remaining traveler to do diving.
Does this trip work for distance and times? Which places to stay for diving?
Thanks for your help!

I'm surprised that you say diving ... Hermosa is full of waves and known for surfing ... perhaps I'm wrong and there are spots further out ... HMMM Manual Antonio park has lovely snorkelling spots though

3 nights Almonds & Corals probably enough. We've stayed, though, and liked it. It's different. . .

Consider the time it will take to get across the country and down to Dominical. If you were driving, the time would be about 10 hours, with stops. One day on the road.

I think I'd switch Playa Hermosa and Dominical around if possible and head down to Dominical last.

No clue about diving these areas. Every place you mentioned is a popular surfing area. Puerto Viejo, Playa Hermosa, Dominical. . .

Depending on flight times, you could fly Limon to SJO; that would save you a few hours.

I hope you are not planning to zip up from Jaco to the airport in order to make a flight on the same day. That is quite a drive, and not one that should be done on deadline. You can expect delays on this route - they happen with regularity. Better to spend the night before leaving near the airport (and I do mean NEAR the airport).

Isn't the trip from Jaco to SJO only about 90 minutes? I would think as long as they don't have an early am flight they would be okay.

I would be concerned though with staying in Dominical for only 2 nights as the crossing from Alomds & Corals will eat up a good majority of your day.

Also, just a note, I don't think it affected the hotel operation any but they were just in the news recently about a building issue. You can do a news search on Almendros y Corales.

On a good day it's only 90 min., but the potential is there for longer! I'd count it 2 hours just to be on the safe side.

I'd count on 2.5 hours from Jaco to San Jose or Alajuela. There are plenty of slow moving trucks headed up the mountain that you will be stuck behind
