I'm on the hunt for a new job right now, so haven't benn on the board over the past few months. Hopefully things will turn around soon and I'll be able to afford to start traveling again - god help me. Great to hear from you!

HI Magellan, I am sorry but I just have to say a big THANK YOU one more time. I have been reading and highlighting and giggling as I keep re-reading your report. Are you a writer? If not, you should be. You are sooo good and funny.

I live only a few hours from you in a teeny town (no stoplight...that teeny) where you talk to (or at least acknowledge) nearly everybody you see on the street. You also wave to nearly every car that you pass, because if you don't know the driver, then you probably know their relatives. When people buy new cars, it can really mess you up!
So, when I go to big crazy cities, I actually feel at home and I break out big smiles to nearly everyone I pass. I love SF. Anyway, I'll look for more of your posts. You are so good!

Best of luck with the job search, Magellan. Maybe you can pursue something in writing?.....at least during this time out.

Thanks so much to seeksocean, ncounty, and Alyson for your sweet posts I can use all the uplifting thoughts I can get at this point - LOL.

Believe me, I would love nothing more to be a writer, and if the opportunity ever presents itself, I'll certainly jump at the chance. In appreciation, - M

Thank you for your informative & entertaining post, Magellan. It was reminiscent of the style of the block buster book "Eat, Pray, Love." Lot's of fun!

We will use much of the information when we go BA Jan/Feb. We will be staying in the Botanico area of Palermo. (Thanks to Scarlett's advice.)

As a self-proclaimed foodie, I found it frustrating when you wrote several times that you had a great meal in various restaurants but, didn't elaborate. I know you were very busy keep a keen eye open for cute waiters. I love to hear all the food details. What did you eat? Why was it better than average?

What are ninjas? I could not find any Argentine food by that name on Google? -C

Fun to read. We're going to BA for a week in late February / early March and really looking forward to it.

Hi condu - Honestly since this trip was a year and half ago I don't remember much about what I ate. I was sick for most of the trip, so I really couldn't taste much for a good part of my time there. I do remember that I adored the empanadas in the little side street bakery-type places - I had one with that had egg and tomato that was simply divine. I think I ate empanadas just about every day.

I do remember that one of my favorite places was El Sanjuanino in Recoleta. I can't remember the name of the dish, but it was this lovely meat stew thing in a bowl with bread. I'll bet AVrooster knows what it is!

SusanInToronto - You'll love BA - I still want to go back!

Cheers M

Hi, Magellan_5!!!

Any chance of having you back here any time soon?

It's great that you are still reading this forum and answering questions about your trip from a year and a half ago!

I'm trying to find out what can "ninjas" possibly be?

Your report indicates that the "lovely meat stew thing in a bowl with bread" is "locro", served by the the waiter who "flirted shamelessly" with you. I'm sure you remember HIM!LOL!!!

Hi avrooster! Nice to hear from you I was surprised to see this thread revived actually - LOL.

Yes, locro is the name of the fabulous dish! I loved it.

For some reason, I seem to remember ninjas as some kind of open faced empanada type thing - filled with cheese or egg, but not sweet. I bought them at the same type of bakery that I got the empanadas at - I just can't remember anymore!

Hope you're well - not sure when I'll be back to BA but hopefully some day.

Cheers, M

So much fun to read trip reports like this! I have been planning my trip to Argentina for over a year now and I cant believe it is actually only 2.5 months away now! Much like Magellan_5, this is our first "non-europe" trip! I am really looking foward to it - the food the wine the shopping the falls the city! Being from Seattle, we are even looking forward to the heat! Definately printing this out to take with me. Thanx to all the posters for their wonderful advice as well. If there are any fellow shoppers out there - I found this awesome site to whet you whistle: http://www.mapasbsas.com/mapasbsas/p...b.asp?menu=1_1
I vow to take good notes so I can post a - hopefully - helpful trip report as well!

Incredibly informative and so fabulously entertaining. LOVE the details, even about navigating through airports, terminals, avoiding dirt roads along the fwy -- I like knowing how to efficiently get through these types of spaces.... thank you for taking the time to write this for us.

I'm looking forward to my trip next month!

Well, Santa Evita's not exactly light either, but it's a fantastic read! I'm glad I read it before heading to the Evita museum. Enjoy!
