Zurich or Lucerne Which do you Prefer?
I'm headed to that area in the Spring. I only have 2
days to spend in Switzerland. I want to buy a good watch, so Lucerne appeals to me. Any good suggestions? Also, if you can recommend any nice inns, please reply or E-mail. Thanks.

Forget about shopping in Switzerland. Go to the Alps. Go to the Interlaken area and see the Jungfrau. You can stay in Grindelwald, up among the snow-capped peaks. It is gorgeous! If you are determined to go to a city, however, go to Lucerne. It is very beautiful, and the shopping area is wonderful. Be prepared to spend a lot of money. If you go, be sure and take a lake steamer at least as far as Viznau. The scenery is spectacular.

If you're looking to buy a Swiss watch, price them before you go over there. Some things are a good deal, others aren't. I bought a Swiss Army knife and it was significantly cheaper there than at home in Canada. As for Zurich or Lucerne, if those are your choices, pick Lucerne. That is, unless you like banks and McDonalds. Zurich is a one hour stop (two if you take the Lindt chocolate factory tour) because it is like any other financial centre. BORING. Interlaken is my choice too. It is beautiful, and you can do all sorts of hiking, bungy-jumping, canyoning, white-water rafting, paragliding, and glacier climbing if you want to. You can take lake cruises and just walk around in the Swiss Alp atmosphere. Bern is a quaint little town, but also just a stopover. E-mail me if you have anymore questions. Have fun!!!

Lucerne, hands down. Except for the cathedral in zurich with the Chagall stained glass windows, zurich is a boring financial center. Stuffy and expensive. Lucerne is gorgeous with the lake, the bridges and the shopping is good. Great pedestrian center in the center of old town, where the shopping is. enjoy!

Definitely agree that you should check prices on watches here before you go. Much better prices stateside. And, don't do any shopping in Zurich. Much higher prices for the same exact items you can find for somewhat less elsewhere. The old section of Zurich and a few of the sights and attractions are definitely worth a look. Lucerne is spectacular.
