Please advise us of reasonably priced restaurants and best shopping in Zurich. We'll only have two
days there. I hear it's expensive, so any tips will
be welcome!

I went there spur of the moment in March. It was expensive and I didn't buy much. I can tell you not to stay the Hotel California. The tourist office at the train station booked me there but I looked at the room and left. The place was run down and depressing. I wound up at the Best Western in the old town. Cost a few francs more but they had a restaurant with fondues, raclette and folk entertainment.
Mostly I went sightseeing, boat ride on the lake, art museums including one in a private residence that is only open two days a week. The tourist office did have good information but there is also a reservations board in the main hall of the station posting vacancy and rate information and you pick up the phone and it connects you with the hotel you dial.

looking for nice shopping and dining without
breaking the bank. Others, please reply also.

Also went there in March, shopping is expensive there, the main
main street especially. But if you wander about the smaller side streets
then you can usually find a bargain or two, as well as a few market stalls
and a Yodeller (if you are lucky)
We ate mainly in the pub type places, for real swiss food thats the best
way to do it! If you really want to be a tourist then obviously its
got to be a Fondue, although the swiss seem to think it funny that we
eat fondue when it isn't snowing and in the minus degrees outside!

Two days in Zurich is one day too many at the current prices!! It's a beautiful walking city but I wouldn't plan on buying much. I do remember a nice small hotel near one of the Guildhalls, but the name escapes me. Do you have to go to Zurich? Italy is a much better bargain and not very far away. Anyway, take lots of photos and save your dollars!!
