If we were willing to pay for security, and took the time to do it (i.e., longer lines, more questions, more regulations, etc.) then we would have it, and maybe this wouldn't have happened. Check out Israel to see how it is done. Captain and mate are behind bullet proof locked door, sky marshalls on each flight, random searches and questioning. That is what we MUST do to secure our planes and people. YES it will cost more, but who among us wouldn't be willing. We must take air safety out of the hands of the Airline Industry and give it to the Feds to secure and insure...that is what sensible countries worried about terrorism do. (have you been to Ireland lately, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc....take a trip and take note...what serious security looks like.) AND NEXT TIME, DON'T GO TO THE BACK OF THE PLANE AND WAIT TO DIE...JUMP THE BASTARDS AND TRY TO KILL THEM.

sandi- the passengers in the wtc and Pentagon planes had no idea they were about to die. The fourth plane did and did do something about it.But perhaps you know exactly how you will react in a hijacking (who knows what they will really do???)

I think what Sandi means is that now that we DO know what these hijackers are capable of, we should try to prevent another tragedy of the magnitude that happened on 9/11. The previous posters are also right in that the other passengers aboard the planes that slammed into the WTC and Pentagon did not realize they were about to die or they probably would have done as Sandi suggested.

Right on, Sandi! In times past a hijacker usually intended to take the plane somewhere else and thus, pilots and crew were trained not to resist. It's a whole new world, and this sad lesson taught us to think again. Also, we must gear up and pay for more stringent security if the airlines are to recover. We must insist. No better way than with (withholding, that is) our dollars.
