Hi, <BR> Are the 'York for Less' and 'London for Less' guidebooks useful to solo travelers? A bunch of '2 for 1' coupons is not particularly useful to me.

I would also be interested in what these booklets are like. How much do they cost and what sorts of places are included in them? Where do you get them? <BR>

I have "Paris for less". Just hit the local bookstore. Best bet is to find one and have a look. Even a few of the discounts offered in this particular one pay for the book (tours, airport shuttle, restaurants). They're also available at the online bookstores (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.).

London for Less can be found at most good bookstores and you can look through it before you buy. $19.95. Has coupns for a couple of free currecy xchanges at Thomas Cook, an $8.00 phone card, and the discounts are not 2 for 1 as I recall. For solo travelers it would probably be a good buy (you can use the card for up to 4 people, but if the 4 people are two parents and two kids, the family admission ticket to most of the places in the book will save you more than the discount X 4)

Bert, I used the London for Less book last summer. I bought it at a local bookstore which always discounts 20% so I even saved there! Not only did I save from the begining (three of us used the book) by saving on the airport/London bus, but I found the information and organization of the book very useful as a carry around guidebook. The map was excellent as well. The best way to judge the usefullness of the book is to see it for yourself at your bookstore. Don't buy it sight-unseen. <BR>We used it daily. I think there was some sort of discount (some are with tear out tickets, some just by showing the book or the card) for everything we did. We didn't do anything just because it was in the book...but saved on everything we did.
