York & London B&Bs

Hello, can anyone help me out here - wondering if anyone has stayed in the Bootham area of York and would recommend a B&B. Also, in London - any good B&B's in the Paddington area?

Thanks
(thought I posted this yesterday ????)

You did, but when people don't answer, it drops to the bottom. If you click on your name, you will see all of your posts, and then you can "top" it by writing "ttt" or "anyone?" or whatever you want to add.

I don't know of any in these particular neighborhoods. But I liked the Bloomsbury bed and breakfast on Clifton Rd. It was a 3/4 mile walk to the city walls and the cathedral. Lovely decor, good breakfast, helpful owners.

Arran House Hotel is like a B&B or a small oldfashioned hotel, in Bloomsbury and convenient to lots of things. Not too far from Paddington by bus. We were there a few weeks ago and enjoyed it.

A neighborhood between Hyde Park and Paddington, is Sussex Gardens. It's an easy 10 minute walk to Paddington Station, or the other direction to Hyde Park. A good location for mass transit or taxis.

There are a couple of nice little B&B/hotels in Sussex Gardens, also restaurants and pubs. We stayed in the Hyde Park Radnor there. It was nice enough. Very clean, hot breakfast included, small room and bath. Try londontown.com.

We stayed at Vancouver Studios in London. Its not a B&B, but you do get a Kitchenette. It is quiet, clean, and about a 5-10 minute walk from Paddington station. The price was very reasonable for London. Check out their website.

A couple years ago my mom and I stayed at the White Horse in York, literally steps away from the Bootham Bar gate. The White Horse is a pub with three B&B rooms above it. We found it on SmoothHound (great site for finding accomodations of all types in the UK). The White Horse was wonderful, very atmospheric, totally British, reasonably priced, clean & cosy. It had the most comfortable bed & pillows of any hotel or B&B I've ever stayed in. The landlords were very freindly and helpful, and even though it's right over the pub, we heard no pub noise in the evening. Full English Breakfast is included, and there is a very sweet dog named Robbie living on the prenises whom we loved petting. The owners also have another property called the Light Horseman on the other side of town. If I ever get back to York I will definitely want to stay at the White Horse.

Hi, FYI - I have emailed most of these places mentioned, thank you. I did live in York for a brief time but the B&B I stayed at has been sold and apparently has gone down hill. It is so great to share info. tho ... like I said, it means so much to hear from people who have actually stayed there. Still working on it tho ... best value for dollar!!!!

>The White Horse is a pub

The white horse is still a pub. It now has a late night bar which lets it open until 12 most nights I think. Generally the people from the gay friendly York Arms just outside the minster will leave there and go here.

If you can put up with a jukebox until 12 then go for it. I am not 100% sure they still do accommodation though
