Interesting report on your whirlwind tour, yk.
So sorry you missed a lot of interesting things in Leuven. For instance, the two beguinages which are on UNESCO's World Heritage list, the University buildings (especially the Library), the Abbeys, ...

Myriam-
I actually did see the university library (quite an impressive building) and took a picture of it. It was quite cold that day, so I wasn't too keen on walking around too much.
If I ever find myself in Leuven in the future, I'll keep your suggestions in mind.

yk, this was exceptionally helpful! My wife and I are heading to Belgium and Germany in May 2008 for a beer and chocolate tour and will use your guide. Thanks much! Any suggestions for either beer or chocolate besides the chocolate you emtnioned?

jrandsr - thanks for reading my TR.
Regarding chocolates in Brussels, I have tried the following (listed from my fav to least fav):
Pierre Marcolini (at grand Sablon)
Galler (at Grand Place)
Wittamer (at Grand Sablon)
La Maison du Chocolat Artisanal (67 rue Marche aux Herbes)
Other chocolate stores in Brussels that I didn't try:
Manon (24 rue du Congress)
Mary (73 rue Royale)
Leonidas
Godiva
Neuhaus

yk - I love reading your report and thank you for a lot of useful information.
From your report, it sounds like Horta, Groeninge and Memling museums in Bruges are a must.
Have you been to Museum der Schone Kunsten and Rubenshuis in Antwerp and Design Museum in Ghent? I just wonder which museums worth a visit during my 4-trip in Belgium.
