yk, what a useful and interesting trip report, I don't want to rush throught it.
Have to confess that I scrolled down what you had to say about the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. It was closed when I went to Madrid and I've always wanted to go.
Thanks, I've been copying and pasting.

This is so funny, I've been reading and referring to this trip report all day, yk! I've finally decided I need to go to Madrid (sadly I can't wing it until sometime between late Nov 2009 and Feb 2010).
I must thank you too, all of the details and information in your report are wonderful.

As much as I enjoy your trip reports, I had to limit myself to the Barcelona section. Too little time, too much research still to do!
But I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed this. Your detail is wonderful! I really appreciate your taking the time to give so much specific information like subway stops, distances, amount of time you spent in places, etc.
Thank you!

YK, I enjoyed your trip report very much and it couldn't have come at a better time because I am headed to Spain at the end of May. Your report on Barcelona, Madrid and Toledo will be very helpful as I finalize the details of my trip.
I am curious to know if you had any problems at all buying your AVE train tickets online as this has been the most frustrating part of my planning (notice I just posted a question about Renfe on this forum). Like you I tend to be the low-cost traveller type and the thought of not being able to score discount tickets is just killing me.

jetsetterwannabe, sorry you are having trouble with Renfe (so do lots of other people). It's been quite a few years since I had gone on this trip. I had some trouble initially but then I used a different credit card and the transaction went through without a hitch. I hope it'll work out for you. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks yk. I will keep trying Renfe. I may just get lucky one day.
Oh, and I have to tell you how impressed I am at your ability to pull together a trip with less than 2 weeks of planning. Got your lodging booked, your must see sights researched, and not to mention Renfe tickets bought successfully!!! Very impressive

Hi yk!
I really enjoyed reading your meticulous travel blog of Spain. Late fall, I am planning to spend a week or so in the country. I'm going to Madrid and Barcelona. I have to decide which of the two gets a 3 day visit, and which gets 4? Any suggestions on that?
Also, I'm thinking of taking a 1 day trip, and here where I'm also undecided. Should I go to Toledo, or Segovia? From reading your day trips to both, it looks like Segovia would be a better fit for me. I want to enjoy my time in the small town, rather than have to rush from a site to a site, aimlessly taking pictures. Which of the 2 is easier to navigate? In your opinion, which one has better views, cathedrals, and other historic sites? I don't really care about art museums since I plan to check those in Madrid and Barcelona, which seem to have bigger collections.
Thanks,

LinkArt: Welcome to Fodors. While yk's trip report is wonderful (as are all of yk's TRs) - it is almost 5 years old. Many folks will either not notice the dates and respond to yk, or will not read the whole thing once they do see the dates. In either case, your post may get lost in the shuffle.
You will do better to start your own thread asking your questions.

LinkArt, first of all, thanks for reading my trip report.
Gosh, it's been quite a few years since I took this trip (and I've been back to Barcelona twice since 2008). In any case, I like Barcelona better so I vote for 4 days there and 3 days in Madrid. As for Toledo or Segovia, Toledo definitely has the more dramatic geography (and hence, better views). Having said that, I second janisj's suggestion of starting a new thread and ask for more opinions from other posters on this forum, esp from those who have been to Spain more recently than I have! Good luck planning your trip!

Thanks, yk!
Recently, a friend of mine moved back from Madrid. He's lived 2yrs in Barca and 1yr in Madrid. Got some great suggestion from him as well as your travel blog. Ecstatic to go there latter this fall. Thanks again, all the best!

Just re-reading the Madrid and Barcelona sections. You really covered a bunch of ground!
You stayed at Prada 1 more hour than I did, you young thing. I was opposite about Goya: "The Goyas didn’t grab me but stuff by Velazquez did. And I got very stuck on Bosch. As you’d expect, there were always crowds around “Garden…” and the piece is, as they used to say, a real trip. "
Thanks for memories, yk!
