Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Pub

Any rants or raves about this place?

Pictures on the website made it look interesting. Mostly tourists, locals or a mix of the two?

Welcome other sugestions.

We passed it on a walking tour. It's in the Judicial section of London, and I was told that mostly the lawyers in the area frequented it.

It was closed that evening, so I only saw it from the outside. It looks like the type of place that I would want to go in and have a pint or two.

It's on Fleet Street, just up from the Royal Courts. It mainly attracts lawyers (my wife worked nearby) and tourists, but it is worth visiting and having a pint or two inside.

So many of the pubs seem to have great names, that I thought tshirts or such from them would be great souveniers. Do any/many of the pubs sell tees, etc?

Have not been myself, but a friend gives it a thumbs up. Says it has a good feel to it and the staff was friendly. Can get crowded.

If you go, you might be interested in Dr Johnson's house nearby.

Ye Olde Chesire Cheese is a great pub! Before going, a friend told me that it was for tourists. While there may be a few tourists there, it's with good reason. It's got a lot of charm and history. I recommend lunch on the lowest level.

I went when I was there in January. We didn't eat, but did have a pint. It is great if you like to see the old style architecture - low ceilings, old hardwood floors, dark wooden booths etc. You have to almost duck to get through parts of it. It's a cool place.

This one was on my list also, sounds like its worth a try. Fleet St area seems like a good place for a Pub crawl.

Also try the Bank of England pub on Fleet Street. Used to be used for the legal part of the Bank of England. It has a beautiful interior. Most pubs around Fleet Street get crowded. Don't let them put you off!!

Stopped in for a pint and lunch 5 years or so ago. The clientelle (sp?) is as mentioned above. I had kidney pie (my first time). It was ok, but can't compare it to anything. We also ordered fish and chips and the fish seemed a little soggy (but it had been under heat lamps and it was past the lunch rush). Great atmosphere, though.
