Yay! I'm going back to Scotland!

My twin sister and BIL are spending three weeks in Scotland in May and asked if our best friend and I wanted to join them for their week on Skye. Duh...!

We already have our plane tickets and travel plans in place for the last week of May. We'll fly into GLA, probably get a cab to Queen Street Station, then the train to Mallaig. We're staying at a B&B before taking the ferry to Armadale the next morning, where they will pick us up and drive to their self-catering rental in Ardvasar.

We've been to Skye before, but my friend hasn't, so it will be fun showing her the beauty of the island. I'm already counting the days!

Lucky, lucky you! Scotland in May is the best.

Hope you can get to Three Chimneys for lunch or dinner.

Cool - Malliag is not much - but enjoy. That West Highlands train is one of most scenic anywhere - did you book tickets yet - in advance can get nice discounts - www.seat61.com has all about that.

I am very jealous - I LOVED Skye when I went there some years ago.

I didn't book train tickets yet because the Scotrail site doesn't go into May yet. Based on an estimate, though, it looks like it will be around £37. The ferry is under £3.

My sister is looking into the Misty Isle boat excursion during the week - have any of you been on that trip?

I knew that they would move this, which on the one hand is annoying b/c I am assuming you wanted to discuss w/Lounge members.....however, I realize that when they move it, it still shows that it was 1st posted in the Lounge, so at least it can still be seen there as a thread that you started there.

I love Scotland and I hope that you have a great trip!

It does seem weird that the administrators decided it belonged on the Europe board - if I wanted it here, I would have posted it here....

Please refer to the sticky thread at the very top of the Lounge board entitled "Please *DO NOT POST TRAVEL THREADS TO THE LOUNGE*" which has been there since January.

Now that I'm happily settled on the Europe board, I had a few observations and questions.

I watched a video of a woman swimming in one of the Fairy pools on Skye and couldn't get over how deep it was, nor how cold it must be!

Are the pools difficult to get to (just to look at - no interest in swimming!)?

Is the sandwich shop in Staffin still there? I had the best smoked salmon lunch the last time I was on Skye.

Very easy really. There is a car park about half way down the road into Glen Brittle then about a .5 mile walk.

If you mean the Kilmartin Restaurant -- yes, it is still open.

Janis - I checked the Kilmartin web site and I've never been there. The one I'm thinking about was a small, one-room place that sold sandwiches and cold drinks, and was located not too far from the public toilets on the A855, near to where the road goes to the Quiraing.

Although, I could be wrong - I haven't been on Skye for 10 years.... ;(
