St Remy.
I think it has lots of allure for the first-through-third-timers visiting Provence. Many cafes/restaurants/pizza places, cute shops that tourists like, other tourists, and some nice building architecture. There are lots of hotels there too. It's smaller than Avignon & Arles, but larger than the hill villages - so it's a good place to spend time & "base" in without the traffic of Avignon & Arles, but more walkable restaurants than Bonnieux & Gordes. It is also centrally located for visiting the Luberon, Avignon, Arles, les Baux, and the Pont/Uzes.
St Remy could improve itself if they put cobblestones on the streets. It would also help if they did not allow large tour group "day-trippers" to arrive by bus - which will not happen.
We actually prefer Uzes for a city of similar look & feel.

tuck, St Remy became intensely popular after Princess Caroline bought a house there. There are more celebrities living in Maussane than in St Remy. I like S.R. because it has a good flea market and the Express where you buy newspapers, books, odds and ends but love Maussane.

The last time I was in St. Remy was in May 2002 and I enjoyed the market. That was seven years ago, so maybe it's gone down hill. I'd still like to check it out, maybe for just 20 minutes or so and then move on for the rest of the day.
I like St. Remy for the reasons Stu mentions. Good base and location and easy to get in/out of town.

Monica....I spent 4 hours at the St. Remy market in May,2007. It was the best market I'd been to.Lots of interesting vendors. My favorite purchase was a fabric wall hanging from Senegal. I also bought jewelry at good prices and wonderful woven scarves. I went through the entire market three times and was about the last customer to leave, as all the vendors were packing up. I suggest that you definitely plan to attend this market. I,m pretty sure that it will be every bit as wonderful as you remember.

Yes, we will be visiting the St. Remy market. I hope that it will be as enjoyable as the last time I was there. Sounds like you had a great time shopping! I remember picking up some soaps and other items.
