Wool coat or trench for Paris?

Well, I'm really counting down now. We leave for Paris in one week and my only dilema left (have booked perfect hotel and know way from airport) is packing. It is freezing here so I am tempted to take my black wool dress coat, but can take my black trench coat. Anyone out there with some good advice for me?
Yvonne

We went to Paris this time of year 2 years ago and I wore a trench coat. The weather was rather changable, but not freezing cold. You should be fine with the trench coat and another layer.

Trench coat. A heavy wool coat is a horrible thing to drag to Europe with you. I know, Ive done it, and will never do it again.

Yvonne-
We are leaving on the 19th-YEA!. I have bookmarked weather.com for Paris. They are predicting temperatures between 45 and 55F in the two week forecast. I am taking a rain coat with a zip out lining.

PS What is your perfect hotel?

Yvonne,
We're leaving in 10 days, and I'm taking along a black miracle fabric trench coat with removable lining. Didn't take a lined trench last year at this same time (cold and rainy every day) and ended up buying one at Bon Marche.

AGM--we'll be returning on the 19th, just as you're arriving.

If we pass in the air, I'll hold up my goodies from M.O.R.A. so you can see what I bought .

BTW, I am taking a light-weight garbardine coat , two light sweaters, and one heavy sweater. My husband just tore his leather jacket and it won't be repaired on time, so in addition to a cashmere overcoat, he's taking a roomy sport coat that he can wear over bulky sweaters.
Your trench coat will be fine--but bring gloves. Even when the temperature is in the 50s, if it's windy and rainy, it can feel much chillier and gloves will be a big help. I went out for a long walk today in Brussels without my gloves and even though it wasn't actually that cold, I wished I had worn them!
BTilke
(I'll be in Paris for the day on the 22nd--who knows, I may pass you on the street, so have a great trip)
I just returned from 6 days in Paris. It was in the 50s, sunny and mild every day. I brought a trench coat, a couple of blazers and a cardigan. One day I wore the coat over the blazer, on others I just wore a jacket or the trench coat over a turtleneck. Leave the wool coat at home and have a great time. If you get cold, you've got a perfect excuse to buy a lovely new wool shawl in Paris!

Another vote for the trench coat. I was very glad when I brought my trench coat w/zip out lining during an April visit a few years back.

Do wish someone had told me to bring gloves. Can get chilly.

I think you need rain protection. I have experienced rain every trip to Paris. Not only gloves, but something to keep the rain off of your head.
I take along a little umbrella (fold up size).
I am assuming that the trench coat is water resistant.
You will need it. April in Paris can be miserable without the right clothes.
I know, my first trip there was mid April and I never saw the sun. In fact, it is something of a joke that I never saw the Eiffel tower, even though I felt of it. (The fog was that thick in case you are wondering what I mean.)

Thanks for all the advice, trench it will be. AGM, the perfect hotel (for us) is Grandes Ecoles. Also, Elle, what is M.O.R.A.? Sounds like something or place I better not miss!!
Have a great trip you two.
Y

I wish i was going to paris! But just a suggestion, i have found the trench coat a little bulky sometimes, so i bought a water repellent long jacket in paris at Le Printemps last year and it is great. We have travelled in car throughout france and it is much more comfortable to wear than the long trench coat. Have a great time!
