wonderful advice and more questions!!

What a load of advice on my 1 day trip outside London! Only about a week to go, and i think it will be Bath. Will let you know when i come back! Now for London neighbourhoods, I like to mingle and shop among the locals , last year i did Islington, anyone recommend a similar neighbourhood, with local shops and few tourists??? thank you all again, barbara

Try Swiss Cottage - nary a tourist in sight, great shops for regular-life stuff.

Hi Barbara, Islington sounds like a great idea, I hear it's the new "in" place. Please tell me how to get there, tube stop, etc. Thanks.
I've never been to Swiss Cottage either, so will try that on my next trip in May, Anymore ideas?
Thanks again.

Swiss Cottage is a section of London on the nw edge; the Jubilee line takes you there; the stop is Swiss Cottage. Abbey Road is nearby; so's the Freud Museum. There's something to be said about that.

Hop on a northern line Tube train to Clapham Common, a mere 10 or so minutes from Leicester Square. You will find a funky neighbourhood, or area, as we call them, with lots of nice bars, shops, boutiques and restaurants. The Common is a lovely, green lung in the city and is used by walkers, dog-owners and sports players. Go for a stroll and then perhaps look in the shops before taking in a film at the local Clapham Picture House or have a bite to eat at Cafe Wanda, Eco pizzeria or the Bellevue pub. You might not like it at all, but for a short tube ride (it is in Zone 2) it is worth a look around.
Oh yes, I live there too! It is great.
