"..I saw immediately that these weren't any kind of insect..."

Aren't ticks an insect?

Did they really mean 'bedbugs'..?

Definitely a foreseeable consequence when they allow small pets into hotel rooms, onto ferries, onto trains, etc.

They aren't insects - they're arachnids as are spiders.

Doesn't really sound like ticks. It sounds more like fleas or bed bugs.

There was a plane grounded only a couple of weeks ago because they found some ticks in the cabin.

I love the fact that Olbia is now in the tropics it is just under 41 degrees North latitude. Sounds like somebody has been walking in the wild countryside of Sardinia and brought it on the boat. Do Italian ticks carry Lyme disease?

They can't mean ticks. They're transmitted by physical proximity. They are transmitted by you touching something they're on, and they are not going to be all over something indoors.

They must mean bedbugs or fleas.

I read it was a tick nest under the bed. And everywhere I have read refers to ticks. As she is a dog owner I expect she can tell the difference between a tick and a flea or even a bedbug. And yes in Italy they carry Lyme and also Babesiose .
