For goodness sake, the Queen's sons all went to Gordonstoun . Prince Harry is not very academic, but Prince William got the requested A-Level grades to get into St. Andrews which is a reputable and ancient university. He got an upper second degree, which counts as a "good degree".
I think it is roughly equivalent to a top end magna cum laude in your money.

So Prince William would have gotten into Eton anyway if he was a common bloke from Manchester?

Pal, you are not incorrect, both William and Harry attended Eton.
Personally I like Eton as a rest from the hustle and bustle of Windsor and as stated there are some nice eateries on that side of the river.
