Has anyone ever been to Wimbledon? I'm trying to book this trip for my husband's 60th birthday this summer. He's a huge tennis fan. Any tips or ideas as to how to go about this would be greatly appreciated.

It is too late for the public ballot. You may be able to get tickets through a tour or USLTA, or you could pay a small fortune for the "debenture" tickets on Centre Court.

Or you could just joint the queue each day, standing in line for hours and hoping to get in (they have 500 tickets for each of the two main courts, plus 6000 grounds passes).

Yes, I went to school there, although quite a few years ago. Nora's advice is good, tickets can be hard to come by or you can pay a lot, or both. Diehard fans queue but that may not be the best way to spend a 60th birthday.

You might be surprised how small and intimate the place is. On the outer courts you get very close to the action.

But don't rely on just turning up, I strongly recommend you have a plan. I would guess that attendances will be high this year as the UK has a player who is doing very well, against all our tennis traditions.

Yes, I've been but we got our tickets through my husband's company. It was quite nice but hard to plan who you'll actually get to see play based on rain and who gets to the semis etc.

My girls did get a kick out of seeing Venus and Serena as they call themselves that when they play tennis with each other.

It is kind of surreal to be at "center court" and I'm sure your husband will love it. Mine is also a huge player and fan...

I too am a big tennis fan and Winbledom would not be my choice of venues in Europe. We saw the Monte Carlo open one year and the setting was magical. Much more laid back ambiance and great scenery, but probably early April.

I have been to Wimbledon many times, but my aunt and uncle live in Old Windsor and they get the tickets through the lottery.

Once, I got tickets for my mother and step-father by by begging from someone with connections.
