Even if you can afford the drop, its still annoying.

Absolutely. Didn't mean to minimize the frustration when it happens.

yeah, it's not that i can't afford it, it's just bothersome, seeing it change and recalculating...to a degree lol
i don't really like planning, but this trip is my first time to europe so i planned as much as the cities I'll stay at, my days there..it's a different story! lol and yeah it is annoying when it changes, and so fast sometimes

@ SitCirq yeah i totally understand what you mean...it's just that i dont really like politics and business =D i like to be freeeeee...and no i don't just want to be a US teenager..how boring -_- lol it's just that i like to learn things on the spot not before, so it's more of a surprising factor to me, thats kinda why i asked this, i wasn't sure why the USD dropped in the first place, back before 2004 it was higher! (Eurotrip lol) but someone kindly let me know it was the Iraqi war....darn wars >.<

thanks!

The major reason for the weakness in dollar in recent weeks is the recovery of the equity market (i.e. stocks and shares) and thus the move away from the $ as safe-haven currency. Plus the quantitative easing in the US, where billions are poured into the financial market to improve liquidity and prop up ailing companies is having a negative effect on currency, compared to in Eurozone where the European Central Bank has been more cautious in using unconventional methods. Concensus opinion of market makers is that the US$ will continue to weaken against other major currencies, esp £ sterling and commodity currencies like AUS$ and NZ$, less so against euro and yen but the general trend is still down.

If you're already are a US teenager, it's silly to try to be anything else.

Tiger: Look at it this way--you won't be a teen forever. Don't wish it away, someday you'll wake up and wonder where the time went.

I would gladly peel a few decades of wisdom away to be an ignorant teenager. Are there people here who prefer something else?

I don't know WHERE the U.S. dollar is headed... but I'm certainly doing my rising-dollar dance every day until my trip to Italy in September!!

"Yes, you can make a lot of "money", playing that game"
Hey , I saw that infomercial...late in the evening with those guys with a 'System' that anyone, kids to seniors could use to make money on Forex...is that what you mean?

No Michel, with THAT system only those people that wrote the software win. Too many trades in a short time. You should have played EUR-YEN and EUR-AUD in the last 2 years. It was obvious. You should only play USD with the USD losing, this is obvious too . Those small markets/countries are influenced a great deal by differences in interest rates. The USD's fate is sealed given the simple facts, there's no risk in playing against the dollar. All it takes is some time. . And even better, the more they spend the harder it will get to finance the deficit. And they won't ever stop spending until the big bang.

Actually I'm infact a little bit worried what comes after the $. , anyway shouldn't keep you from playing ;-)

<<If you care about the answer, then you can't afford the vacation.>>

How very small minded of you. Just b/c someone wants to save a bit of cash and is conscientious of their future spending, doesn't mean someone else should pigeon hole them into being too strapped to go on a trip, Travelgourmet. I am sure you feel "telling it like it is" is wise - that is only true when you have all of the facts. Otherwise, you just sound like a rude mouthed know it all... who just happens NOT know it all.

Tiger, plz ignore the small handful of rude and stuck up (and very out of touch) ppl on this forum. Most posters here have a great deal of info and knowledge.

For some reason, when it comes to travel on the web, it brings out the snob in some.

I brought up this question a while ago as well, and was met with the same snotty answers. You have a right to be concerned about the Euro/Dollar situation. You are looking forward to your trip based on certain expectations, and should the dollar drop even more dramatically it will put a damper on your time there. Unfortunately there is no easy answer. We just came back from two weeks in Provence and feel lucky that we purchased our Euros when we did.

Plan your trip, keep an eye on things, and have a great time. If the money situations worsens you can still have fun in France without spending a great deal.
