Wilderswil as a Home Base?

Toying with a possible trip to Switzerland in either May or September (9 nights) before or after another job change. Have been to Switz > 10 times, so no need to see the biggest tourist draws.
As I may be on my own, looking for a quiet town, modest hotel (under CHF 160/night) with either lake or mountain view (balcony mandatory).
Would like a grocery store in town, at least a few dinner choices, and walkable to train or bus.
My only goal during this trip would be to ascend the Niederhorn and to revisit Stanserhorn (Cabrio open air).
Otherwise, relaxing short bus or train trips to revisit Interlaken/Unterseen, Luzern, other past faces and chill on Vierwaeldstaetttersee.
Any experience with Wilderswil?

Other than considering Wilderswil as a base for my own trip one year and stopping there for lunch once, no experience.

Good luck with your decision.

Hi mokka4,

Sounds like such a great time!!

Sorry I can't comment on Wilderswil.... But could I suggest a hotel on Lake Thun? In Oct I stayed at the Bellevue au Lac, situated between Hilterfingen and Oberhofen. You can get a room with a balcony on the lake for about 160 chf.

There is a Migros and a Coop just down the road, and the bus stop is just steps from the hotel (however, the monitor on the bus wasn't working, and I missed my stop and had about a 10-minute walk back to the hotel). I arrived later on a Saturday evening, and the restaurant was full, but they sent up a cheese platter for me. And of course everything was closed on Sunday. The hotel is about a 1h walk from Thun, a town I love, and about 15 minutes by bus.

Some photos --

View from my bancony

Quite an impressive cheese platter!

Wildersrwil is a suburb of Interlaken, linked by bus (every 30 min from 6am until 9pm) with Interlaken West railway station and by train (every 30 min from 5.45 until 23.45) with Interlaken Ost railway station.
No lake views for sure.

Thanks Swandav,
I was torn between Thun or Brienz bases (with their lake views) OR staying just a little bit higher for the mountain view, but still with frequent connections to Interlaken for daytrips.
It looks now like my trip will be more likely in September, so I will have time to weigh my options!

Stayed in Wilderswil several years ago (probably 16/17 yrs. ago) No bad issues, transportation (especially to Lauterbrun area) was easy. Short walk to the rail station. Certainly no view of the water but mountains in distance.

I will see if I can find the name of my hotel.

Hotel was Alpenblick and certainly less expensive then, as compared to now.
