I, myself, am new to this board and leaving for a trip in 3 weeks to Europe. I either am so excited to find out the latest info on where I'm going, or have not realized the beaty of searching for previous posts that could address my queiry. Thanks for a great board!

I have been posting questions and comments at Fodors.com for about 4 years now. Yes, there are repeat postings of the same questions (take "Paris hotels in the 5th, 6th, and 7th Arr." as an example), but that's life here at Fodors.com. I too think that the "new" poster wants their own questions personally answered even though their answers already posted. I like responses to my questions, but I also do my research before I post my questions. And I agree with Ann about repeat postings in that updated information is provided. I like to read someone's comments that JUST returned from a trip because it's NEW/UPDATED information. <BR> <BR>Although the Search feature isn't 100%, it is helpful. I think the Search feature could search for a name, like "Elvira," if her name is in the body of the message and/or tile. For my upcoming Germany trip, I sometimes search by country name and then have the ability to read the postings by those who categorized their messages under 'Germany.' I'm sure I'm missing some messages if one uses another category (France, for example with a title of "hotels in France, Germany….", which is why I usually go back 200 postings! Yes, almost every day! Another reason: the messages get buried so quickly that I sometimes forget what I have responded to and need to review the last 150-200 to find them. <BR> <BR>And lastly, look at my repeat posting on "fodorites in Germany!" I'm going next month and still hoping to find other fodorites in Munich for a get together. Give up? Not me. I'll just repeat my posting! <BR>

Hi Monica, <BR>Boy do I agree with you, doing a search and going back several segments works for me too. I got frustrated when I posted information when we returned from Amsterdam and Paris thisTuesday, and gave special kudos to several people, and shared some of our experiences and new restaurants. I tried bringing that post to the top twice yesterday and today, but it is way down there now. I even asked a question within my post for Elvira, but I'm sure she never saw it. Oh well, that really is life on the Fodor's line this time of year. For the past 3 years I've had fun here too.

Katie <BR> <BR>Where am was that since the lasting post you sent making others appear as wasted over fifty replies? <BR> <BR>Seriously, don't sweat it, Katie. Everyone's different aren't they? <BR> <BR>Now I'm off to search back 600 postings...

Kathy, I did read your AmsterdamParis report, but I didn't see any question (except the (sp?) after Pere Lachaise). <BR> <BR>I don't usually respond to trip reports because it sort of just adds clutter, since many people use the report as a jumping off for questions. Sorry if it looked like I was ignoring you - which you would know for sure because I would type I AM IGNORING YOU at the end of your report - which of course would defeat the purpose of ignoring you... <BR>But I'm not.

WOWWWWWW! <BR>I did not expect such visceral responses to an innocent observation and comment. <BR>I reply to many posts using my full real name and get so aggravated when I have taken the trouble and time to answer questions and give an account of my experience or supply names and often tel numbers and the same question is in a new post a few days later. My pet peeve. <BR>(Dave(bigduv)may have understood the 2nd sentence if I had written &lt; and you, the person who is repeating the same question, lose out as many people who reply to posts.... &gt; )

Elvira, my question was about the Polish Catholic church along the St. Honore area. Do you know the name of it? I've "searched" without results. I have never seen you ignore a question - ever. Just thought my post dropped too quickly for anyone to see it. Thanks. By the way, are you living in Paris yet?

I think that new posters add inquiries which have been answered over and over again because they are 1) excited to have found such a terrific resource and haven't become familiar with the "search" function; 2) are in a big hurry for the information and find it cumbersome to search through the posts in reverse chronological order; 3) want the very latest feedback (things do change). Actually, I'm glad they changed the search function. Previously, if you searched for "Muguet", you'd get tons of irrelevant posts because "Muguet" appeared in one of 24 responses to an inquiry. And, you'd have to look through all of them hoping for something interesting. But, that's how it goes - for every advantage, there's a disadvantage. I applaud the folks who take the time to let a new poster know that there's lots of valuable information to be found with a search. On the other hand, anyone who's weary of the same questions over and over again can just ignore them.

Kathy, I don't know of a Polish Catholic church in Paris (I'm a Prod so not too hep on that stuff). The big church in that area is St Eustache, which is near les Halles/Chatelet and has the sculpture of the woman's hand and head.
