Why doesn't Fodors reference Chania in the Greece Guidebook?
I just bought the Fodor's Greece guidebook and was amazed that it makes no reference to Chania at all. I recently read a thread where several of you said Chania was one of your favorite places to visit. It does not appear on the Crete map in the book and is not discused in the Crete section. It is so hard to decide which islands and towns to visit so I am confused about the ambiguity.

The transliteration system used by Fodor's almost certainly translates the Greek word as "Hania" and not "Chania".
This is not the only Greek place name with multiple spelling variants in the Latin alphabet.

Chania is wonderful. You'll love the Venetian influence harborfront.Go south from Chania to Plakias, Mirthios & west to Chora Sfakion.Ferry to tiny, peaceful,Loutro. Walk the Imbros, or if you're in shape, the Samaria Gorge.Enjoy the fabulous Elafonissi Beach on the southwest coast.I've travelled to many countries & Crete ranks high among my favorites.

Thank you! It makes sense now although I agree there should be some cross-referencing. Regarding looking at the map: I read the information on the thread. How am I supposed to know where it is located? Thanks for the helpful post. I will make sure it gets included in my plans.
