Why doesn't Fodors reference Chania in the Greece Guidebook?

I just bought the Fodor's Greece guidebook and was amazed that it makes no reference to Chania at all. I recently read a thread where several of you said Chania was one of your favorite places to visit. It does not appear on the Crete map in the book and is not discused in the Crete section. It is so hard to decide which islands and towns to visit so I am confused about the ambiguity.

Trust those that said that Chania was a favourite place to visit. I was there in May and loved it.

Thank you. I see Frommer's has some information. Do you have any recommendations on hotels? Elounda looks lovely but the prices look prohibitive.

hi milliebz

It's in the spelling!

The new Fodors Greece 7th edition does highlight Hania and it is marked as a FodorsChoice. Check it all out starting on page 508 to 512

The transliteration system used by Fodor's almost certainly translates the Greek word as "Hania" and not "Chania".

This is not the only Greek place name with multiple spelling variants in the Latin alphabet.

If there is a spelling variation, wouldn't it be the right thing to do "Chania - see Hania page xxx"??

Chania is wonderful. You'll love the Venetian influence harborfront.Go south from Chania to Plakias, Mirthios & west to Chora Sfakion.Ferry to tiny, peaceful,Loutro. Walk the Imbros, or if you're in shape, the Samaria Gorge.Enjoy the fabulous Elafonissi Beach on the southwest coast.I've travelled to many countries & Crete ranks high among my favorites.

Thank you! It makes sense now although I agree there should be some cross-referencing. Regarding looking at the map: I read the information on the thread. How am I supposed to know where it is located? Thanks for the helpful post. I will make sure it gets included in my plans.
