Why do I have to scroll left and right

I find this happens all the time as well. The "replies" seem to need to be scrolled from left to right to read. You can fix this by decreasing font size, but to be honest this is a pain in the neck. I hope Fodor's takes heed and leaves the font size the way it was, if someone wants it larger then they can make it so.

It can also have to do with your browser and whether you prepared your text in a "soft-wrap" vs "hard-wrap" situation. I find that Internet Explorer tends to have more problems with "wrapping" issues than Netscape. [Yet another reason to eschew the "evil empire."]

I have the same problem on Internet Explorer. I solve it by enlaging(moving) screen to the left covering part of the left Microsoft screen. Now I can see the whole test. Problems were much worse on Netscape with the new format. On Netscape I could not print anything and the screen was constantly locking and crashing. Had to abandon Netscape to save my sanity.

I know it's popular to blame everything including global warming on the folks in Bellevue, but I don't think the problem can be blamed on Microsoft.

It seems clearly the way Fodors has designed the page. That can't be changed by the browser. It looks as though the page is designed for 1024 pixel width. That is to say, the lines won't wrap until that width.

If you have the misfortune to have a 13, 14 or 15 inch screen the Fodors site may not be built for you. And my laptop won't go above 800 pixels so I out of luck if I'm away from my desk.

Perhaps Rick Steves'or the Lonely Planet websites are designed for folks who can't spend as much on a monitor?

It's not the browser, I have two on my machine, both IE and Netscape and have never been unable to read a post without moving the screen, and have no problems with this wrapping thing. It must be your personal settings or screensize, it's not the browsers. Long URLs are rare in posts, but when they appear, they automatically wrap on my screen, regardless of my browser. I'm not sure of this stuff, but I don't think the pixel thing is a problem either as my monitor is set to only 800x600, and I have no problem (I have a 17" monitor), although it may be monitor size.

Christina. I'm glad you are so sure. But I didn't say it was only the browser. I said it was also the SOURCE of what the browser reads -- that is -- where you cut and pasted FROM [if you did that.] And in my experience IE has had marginally more problems with wrapping than Netscape. My evidence? From 4 years of making web pages and 3 years of teaching oteryh people how. Don't you ever get those emails where the text is is one long line?
